Just bought a new clutch, Sachs 2.5...
Can anyone give me an estimate how much install will be? I've read the dealership will take the engine out, independents will just remove the tranny and cut the time in half. About how much am I looking at here?
And no, I don't feel like doing it myself in the garage. I don't have a lift, and my days of doing clutch installs on my back while cursing tight spaces are over.
I've also got a local shop that has done some body work on my car, they deal primarily in BMW's and can literally rebuild those from scratch, set them up as all out race cars, etc... but they want to take a stab at it and would give me a good deal. I'm not sure a clutch install is the type of job that I want to give them to get their feet wet LOL. Thoughts?
Finally... the GT2 clutch conversion. My current clutch is not leaking, it's perfectly fine... But does the tranny have to come out to do the conversion? I was thinking I would upgrade if the stocker goes bad, but if I had to pay to remove the tranny again with a lightly used clutch in it, I'd be pissed.
Thanks guys,
Todd

Thanks for the reply. I was thinking about ordering the kit from EVOMS. If I did OEM, wouldn't that require drilling the transmission casing? Is it cheaper to buy oem parts rather than the bracket types?
the trans case has beefed up bosses inside the casing which line up perfectly with the holes drilled for the studs. all thats needed is a step drill bit and a dremel to clearance the inside of the case for the gt2 clutch fork. took less than an hr to do everything(drilling and clearancing)

I have the same clutch and I like it a lot compared to my 2 previous CM set-ups. . Modulates great, close to stock..
I run stock flywheel, DM, and have NO GT2 conversion.
most private shops around here in Chicago area charge between $800 to $1100 for swap..
Good Luck..

I'm planning on running the stock flywheel too. I've had other cars with the lightweight flywheel and the chatter gets annoying in a street car IMO.
32Krazy, thanks for the info! I think I'll just order the OEM parts as that sounds like a significant savings, and just do a regular GT2 install.

be aware of your oem flywheel.. if its warped your clutch will not disengage properly...
and your back to square 1
dont convert to gt2 stuff unless you ahve a shop that did it... mind you.. if used breake fluid vs. penstosin.. they screw that up and your in for $1100 in parts alone....
$900 for indi is fair and lots of bleeding required...

If I need to order another flywheel I will, and I'd go with a LW one since the stockers are much more expensive. Will cross that bridge when I get there. My car appears to have been babied by the previous owners though, so I think it will probably be fine.
