996 turbo with flash - clutch toasted

Hello,

I´ve had my 996 turbo flashes by epl. It runs great, but expectedly my stock clutch is busted...

I´ve had my mechanic dropping the engine to replace the clutch, and when he check the clutch disk and plate, he sayd the plate was fine and that he could have my disc rebuild with hybrid componentes (ceramic and ferodo).

My question is:

Will the Spring on the stock plate handle the new flashed torq? or will i be fine with just a reinforced disc?

Need answers ASAP!!!!

Thanks u all!

If you're going through the trouble of dropping the trans, why not just replace clutch with something that can handle the power?

Because my mechanic only took 3 hours to take of the clutch.. and will only take a bit more putting it all back together. And since godd labour is not very expensive here in Portugal, i should pay more than 300€ to try the disc.
But my true question is still: What handles the torq? The disc or the pressure plate? I really don´t have a lot of knowledge when it refers to clutches! :-)

Get a new clutch disk and pressure plate. Makes no sense to rebuild it with something that "might" work when you can put something in that you know will work.

if your not looking for big power the sachs 2.5 will be just what you need with a oem flywheel. add the gt2 slave conversion and your set for a long time

what is the gt2 slave conversion? i´ve just had my clutch accumulator replaced..., does it have anything to do with that? you´re telling me sachs 2.5, but here in europe i can only find sachs SRE performance clutch kit pro. is it the same?

Thanx!

Just curious if shipping from a US distributor would be cost effective or not= if so you could order from a vender on 6speed.

The answer is both. The disc material is the friction and the pressure plate is the force that is applied to the disc. If the disc is to aggressive a compound it will chatter driving in the street. You would be happy with a Kennedy disc sold by EBS ask for Don http://www.ebsracing.com/ I would change the pressure plate while in there because they get affected by the heat of slipping faster then the flywheel. Hope this helps.

Tim

Hi guys, thanks for the replies.

I´ve ordered this clutch kit: http://www.sachsperformance.com/Sach...-Pro::193.HTML

I have my car on the lift, so i can wait for the usa shipping. And by the way... importing something from the usa to Portugal, hds about 30% on custos + overseas shipping costs!

I+ve realized that i have my transmission mount almost tearing.... so i´m buy a new part too!

you can do the window weld repair on the trans mount. costs about 20 $. and yes the gt2 slave conversion replaces the oem petosin based slave cylinder and master.

The clutch zr performance clutch works great, but with a little vibration when slowly trying to go up Hill on reverse.

The new mount costed 165€ and the clutch kit (plate+disc) costed almost 1000€. On labour and liquid coolant it costed me 300€.
My indie mechanic told me that it was very easy for him to replce the parts and all the Porsche specialist just try to make it look difficult to justify the high cost.
