Guys with 335 tires...
that looks absolutely hideous. honestly the ugliest 996 ive ever seen. from the ali baba sourced bumper, to the hood that would probably fit better on a lincoln town car. those rear wheels belong on the back of iroc z.
SMH
not to mention a set up like that would only add to the horrible understeer 911s have.
the widest tire that can be fit on a 996 in 19" wheel would be a 315.
with an 18" wheel you can go 335 but will need to make camber adjustments, and possibly use small spacers.

No reason to be upset.
lol , im not upset. just pointing out how horrible and off it looks.
it looks like a kit car. im doing the poster a favor..
jokes aside Orbelo, it looks really tacky but can easily be remedied. a proper set of tires and a few hours at a body shop to align the hood and bumper will get her looking much cleaner.

345 25 19 tires (pirelli was the only one making them) were discontinued several(5+) years ago.

First of all my hood is open in the picture and so not really sure what you are talking about. If you are talking about the hood while under full WOT, yes all carbon fiber hoods are pretty much set the same way. Thats just how they come. The alibaba front-end is a techart replica, which I believe is one of the most sought after front bumpers for the 996TT. I however modified it to what I like it to look like. You don't like it you can go **** your self.
Now the topic of this discussion was not about how good Orbell's car looks or if Steve would approve the $70K+ in mods gone into Orbell's car. The topic was can 335 fit on 996tt.
For further clarification lets discuss my car in great detail, so you understand why things are the way they are. I have a 3.8L producing 857Ftlb. at 4,000 RPM with 851whp. I have gone through R888 305, Michellen PS2's 315, Peirelli Corsa 325 and Hoosier 315. All of these tires were absolutley useless for the instant power my car produced. I could not hook no matter what... There are many board members here that have seen this first hand riding shotgun in my car. My only alternative was lay down more rubber and so the 345 were my only other option. Still I have traction issues if the tires are not warmed up...
This setup if half-assed would have alot of under steer, your right, however when you don't cut any corners and put every single suspension mod out there in the market place and have it setup by a company like West End alignment a 1000 hp car will still handle like go cart... I'll even let you drive it just make sure you got your favorite diapers on.
TabooPc, I included one of my pictures during an airport run when I was under full squat, because of supporting mods and precise calculation on the lowering of the car and alignment/corner balancing the car does not rub. BTW this run I pull 183 mph in 1/2 run
So yes if you need to go bigger than 315 it can be done.
Oh and here is another picture of my Alibab bumper with 315 Hoosiers with 15mm spacers...

the hood looks off in the first pic, while the car is stationary.
$70k in mods is insane.
thats some power youre making. 183 in the 1/2 is pretty impressive....
ive gone through a few tires too.. toyo r888 in 305,toyo t1r in 315s ps2s in 315's and 305s. bridgestones in 305s, pirellis in 305s, continentals in 315, michelin cups in 315s, and 305s, goodyears in 325's, michelin super sport in 305s, and nokians on 295 , im probably missing a couple.
for straight line monster grip you would want to run a narrower tire, not wider. that explains why youre breaking traction so easily. wider tires dont give you more contact patch on the ground. in fact, wider tires gives you less traction on straight line acceleration. i can explain that further if you want. if you plan on doing mile runs you should be on 18s. a 305 35 18 mickey thompson would have your car hooking no problem.
what was your 1 mile time ? engine build specs ? turbos ? fuel ? dyno graphs ? what kind of diff are you using to put down that power ? are you on stock gears ?

Interesting last I checked guys running 1500-2000hp had tires as wide as my hood...

nice build thread.
the hoosier a6s in an 18" size is what you need. the 19s are hurting you.
wider is great for canyon runs, but narrow with lots of sidewall is what you need for straight line runs. 275/285/295 40 if they make them on an 18.
there are a bunch of guys on here that are making that kind of power and then some without the issues your having. are the clutches on your LSD worn ? maybe a high lock up on the ramps (not sure if thats something you can do on a giken lsd)
whats your 60-130 ?

Got them on.
Toyo r888 335/30 18. Massaged the liners a bit and rolled the fenders. Not terribly hard.
With the spacers I used the offset ended up at 43mm
My front wheels with spacers are 18x9 with a 40mm offset. I'm thinking about going back to 45mm
Any thoughts on what the better 18x9 front offset is?

Ill get some tomorrow.
I feel like the front poke out a little more than I'd like. (I have 12mm spacers, thinking about going 7mm)
I like the way the rears look. (I've got 12mm spacers, but thinking about bumping up the 15mm to get a hair more inner clearance. I think I have room too)

better get some clear protection on the rear qtrs. the sand the rubber is going to toss up will eat the paint right off that car
