The teams I know use those shocks when they paint or do body work. Do you have pics? rsr rear shocks uses the same ends as 996 turbo. The fronts would need a sleeve and a top mount.

No pics yet. I am concerned that they may be too low. But it is hard to say for sure because the cup uprights in the front have a different offset between mounting locations and where the hub center is. I believe they are essentially drop spindles.

I am actually more concerned with the front. But, now that you posted pics the rears may of a concern too.

The 996 Cup shocks are designed for a ride height of around 85mm in the front and I think around 100mm in the rear if I recall correctly. The stock TT ride height is around 150mm or so if I remember. I seriously doubt you can make this work without changing out the front uprights, raising the rear subframe, etc. With the AWD front uprights you would have huge bumpsteer issues in my opinion. I have the 996 cup uprights on my car with a ride height of 102/120mm and it works great. Previously ran the same ride height with the AWD uprights, it was not very good in comparison...

CUP/RSR: F 82, R 112 mm
GT3: F 115, R 128 mm

Because of subframe differences CUP/RSR's chassis is about 6mm (F) & 20mm (R) lower (compared to axle center) than GT3's. This is done by higher "A"-arm pickup point at front and modified subframe at rear. Totally CUP/RSR's chassis sits 33mm lower at front and 36mm lower at rear. Ride height is measured from a certain chassis point at front and from the subframe at rear. As you all already knew...

Would be interesting to see the rear subframe for comparison. Would the subframe bushings also be thinner/thicker to aid in this?

It's all in here: http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/996-gt2-gt3-forum/797079-welcome-to-my-descent-into-madness-upfixin-der-gt3.html

About your original question. I have a Cup car coilover set in my (RWD)car. 3-way adjustable Bilstein, valved for '04 GT3 RS's coils. Forward is a bolt-on solution, mostly because shock's body is more or less the same height that GT3's, and it can be freely moved in the upright. And no, it hasn't moved on it's own.
Because of that subframe difference at rear I had 30mm spacers between body and shock's upper bushings but they are being removed for the next season. Because of that aforementioned thread and discoveries made by it....

Are you going to run AWD or RWD?

The relation of the rear lower shock mount to the axle between the rsr and the 996tt is less then 10mm. On the front if using the turbo awd wheel carrier he will need to make sleeves do to the difference in shock thickness. They can machine that sleeve with the stop anywhere needed to achieve the ride height needed.

One thing to keep in mind is the fact that the Cup shocks are valved for 1400-1500lb springs. Not sure what rates the OP is planning on running or how well the shocks would work with softer spring rates..

It is fairly common for Cup owners to drop the spring rates to better deal with US tracks. Depending on the spring rate changes, the dampers can either be adjusted for the new spring or revalved. Either way their are options. And by the time I do all of that I am still cheaper than lesser suspension setups.

The above link just takes me to the GT2/3 forum, not any specific post or thread. Any idea what the thread is named so I can look it up?

And I am currently RWD. Looking into Cup uprights that will allow the brakes I want to run. Their are currently 4 different flavors of cup uprights for anybody researching this. And the variable is the brake caliper size.

I have looked into Cup shocks over and over again. Met with the same issue that the rear set would not work (or so I was told again and again). I'm interested in seeing what Pete has to say as well as it has been truly frustrating trying to figure it out. I hope he has figured it out.

That being said I think my car is about as low as one can go without having serious rubbing issues in the front and it's at 100 mm on the nose. I run 245 Hoosiers. Still slight rubbing the last bit of steering towards lock. You may be able to get away with the ultra wide but very low profile hoosier 255 though. But be ready to play with the caster a bit, and actually have to remove some wheelbase to get the tires to fit.

Pete, can you link a specific thread? Inquiring minds want to know. I haven't bought a cup suspension for that very reason. How thick were your spacers? Any pictures?

My question in the spacer is is it between the upper strut mount and the body? Or between the spring and the upper strut mount like the GT3 street uses?
