Completed...

Completed this today. Did it without lowering the trans, but removing the right rear wheel, and removal of the splash guard / aero plate under the trans made this much easier. I outlined the tools I used and how I was able to get it done below. I also did not remove the detent .

With the bolts removed I used a magnet to pull the spring out, I then dropped the ball into the hole in the detent, using my pinky finger I was able to confirm it went into the hole as expected. From the point I placed the spring back in and buttoned everything back up. Total job took 1.5 hours which included jack up time, wheel removal, coffee break, pee break, chatting with my neighbor and play fetch with my dog. If I did it again I could probably do it in about 20-25 min start to finish. I was in no hurry when I started this. Shifting feels good. Just slightly firmer (not hard) more solid engagement. I had no issues with pop out prior to this so it is truly a preventative measure . Overall a pretty straight forward job that most anyone with some sort of wrenching experience should be able to do fairly easily Glad I saw this post. Straight shot up. 2 long and 1 short extension.
Another angle
One elbow / flex joint.

Long extension and 8mm socket used for leverage. Once the bolt was broken loose the 1 inch hex (pushed out of my socket hex) was used along with an 8 mm ratchet wrench.
Can see how the socket and extension was used for leverage
Ratchet wrench on 1 inch hex
