exactly but it turns out, the g50 for carerra is the sealed one. another thread goin on saying that ours aren't sealed all i know for sure is the thrust/pinion bearings go bad. i just went thru it..

the 96/50 box is different in that there's passageways(?) for the oil to get in unlike in the 96 carerra which is what helps those bearings turn to mush. all along i thought mine that failed were sealed. turns out maybe not. found this from the cms info sheets. notice the difference btw the g50 vs 96/50? ours..


"The internal components of your Carrera gearbox can be better lubricated, especially on the input shaft where parts are farthest away from the oil. Under certain conditions the transaxle may experience oil starvation, a contributing factor for overheating often resulting in costly damage or failure.

CMS now offers “prepared” input shafts and bearing races with oil passageways to 3rd through 6th gear bearing journals, similar to Turbo, GT2 and GT3 transmissions.
