Rear tires rubbing against inner liner

I took my 996TT into my mechanic last night to get the car prepped for the summer/DE season (fluid checks, flush brakes, new pads & I went with the frozen slotted rotors). The car has been lowered & has KW3 coilovers. In addition, I went to 19" wheels (295/30ZR19) a while back. They are rubbing right through the inner liner and hitting right where the turbo is located behind the liner. I'm afraid of damaging the turbos at some point. I was wondering if anyone else had this issue and how they rectified it. I didn't want to really increase the ride height. My mechanic & I discussed spacers but our fear is that under extreme torsion (read high cornering DE event), that the tire would rub against the car fender by moving the rear tires out. Any ideas/thoughts would be appreciated.

Install GT2 rear fender liners and brackets. These will give you a bit more room down by the IC hose because the fender liner attachment point is relocated to the side. The TT/GT2 fender liners are the same part but the GT2 ones have a hole in the side for the bracket. You can take the TT ones and drill hole in them but they are priced about the same. Check your rear wheel offset. On a 18 or 19x12 wheel ET40 works like a charm using 305/35/18 or 305/30/19 tires. That's what I run and I'm at 96/124mm ride height (about 1/2" below GT2). Rear fenders are rolled on a GT2. Have your TT fenders rolled for more room.

Jon are those measurements right? It seems like some are in degrees and some inches? Or is my too tired brain reading it wrong at almost 1 in the morning?

I had the same issue as the OP when I installed my wheels/tires, same specs and tire size as a 996 GT2. I used a heat gun and made my self more room by pushing the liner out a bit. This is my temporary solution while I wait for my GT2 liners.

I ordered the GT2 liners, but didn't know about the brackets. You wouldn't happen to have the part number for those would you?

Hey Scott. No, those are degrees and minutes. The way Porsche and others spec alignment number is in degrees and minutes (1º = 60'). All you need to do is divide whatever minutes you have by 60 to convert to degrees. For example 30' = 0.5º (30/60=0.5). If you look at my front camber of 3º15', that equals 3.25º. My rear camber is 2º25', which equals 2.42º. Hope that makes sense.

The GT2 liners are useless without the brackets because they are the exact part number as the TT liners. The GT2 liners actually have the TT part number molded directly into them but a sticker is placed on the liner with a GT2 part number. The only difference is that Porsche places a hole in the side of the liner for the screw that attaches to the shorter GT2 brackets. The GT2 bracket part numbers are 99650435391 and 99650435491.

Thanks for the info. How different are the GT2 brackets? Would it be pretty simple to modify the TT brackets to do the same thing as the GT2 ones?

As a follow up, my rear wheel offset is ET51 (19x11) Where would you be able to locate the GT2 inner fenders. I definitely don't want to get into rolling fenders. Does the 997TT use a different liner.

No, you can't mod the TT brackets. They are totally different. The GT2 one is about 1/2 the length of the TT one and much stiffer. The GT2 bracket bolts to the side of the fender liner about half way up. Each bracket is about $90.

You need a 15mm spacer in the rear. The GT2 liner can be bought at any dealer or you can take your TT one and drill a hole in it on the side. Same exact parts.
