I have a coolant leak that drips and it seems to be coming from the hose that goes to the water pump. I checked the hose and it was dry up top making it seem that it is coming from the water pump side and not the reservoir. I inspected the hose after removing it and I saw no tears.

Installed my new Switzer catless exhaust last night and checked it again. I doubled checked the aluminum pipe that goes to the engine bay after reading on them failing and I don't seem to be able to move or wiggle it, making me think that the glue is still good. Am I missing something. I can't seem to identify if the water pump is the culprit or the coolant metal pipe attached to the water pump.

Any thoughts?

I'm almost at the point to pull the engine and weld the coolant pipes as well as replacing the water pump while I'm at it. Seems like something simple that I may be missing.

 

Its the water pump.

I pinned my lines when my motor was out, then had a hose leak nar the water pump. replaced that, then had the weeping you're describing...that was the pump. If you're around 80k miles and take ur motor out...

replace the pump!

 

I am at 86K and was figuring at pulling the motor to do some maintenance but just wanted to be sure since this is my first Porsche. Thanks for confirming my suspicion. Better get to it quickly before it fails horribly and I have to tow it home.

 

I coincidentally have the same problem...took it to my local Porsche Mech and he also confirmed that it is indeed the water pump. Ordered a new one and a new pipe as well. Should be fitted by next week.

 

So I was planning on doing the water pump this weekend but I received the wrong thermostat so have to return it and get the right one.

In the meantime, I have gotten the cars service history and noticed that there was a water pump replacement just 2K miles ago. I see no note about a thermostat replacement, which now makes me think that either a bolt is loose on the water pump or the thermostat gasket is leaking. Curious as to what you guys think. Find it odd that a water pump would fail in just 2K miles. Seems like it was just done in November too.

 

Without getting in there and checking it out more closely its hard to say. I have seen new water pumps fail but its doubtful. Take another hard look it would be a shame to pull it all apart for a simple problem you may have overlooked.

 

Thanks. I had planned to take a closer look when I changed the thermostat since the records didn't show it changed. Maybe I can store the water pump for another 40-50K miles. Hoping so.

 

When you change thermostat you will probably see where its leaking good luck. I would send the water pump back if you don't need it as I cant tell you how many new parts I have from cars long gone lol.
