replace just cv boosts or entire axle

I know my front cv boots are torn and grease is coming out, should I replace entire axle or just boots I'm not sure how long ago that happened

I in the past always just replaced the axle but I guess it would depend how many miles they have been in use.

Yes as they have to be cleaned well,,checked for excessive ware and greased = much easier to just replace.

Good point. I thought they refurbished mine but maybe they just sent an exchange pair? My mechanic sent them out at the time. I also went in for cv boots but he told me there was a little vibration from the front end (hence the refurb).

On all the cars I have worked on I just exchanged but do realize 996tts are not common so maybe not.

really just depends on the condition of the joints and if how much money you want to spend, i'm about to replace my boots. a lot cheaper than dropping for a new axle. Luckily i dont think my joints are too worn yet.

I just had all four front CV boots replaced on mine. Three of them were torn, 4th was preventive. My mechanic took the axles to an axle shop to be inspected/rebuilt if needed.

A replacement boot kit is about $45 and a new axle is $650. It's a pretty big difference. As long as you catch a torn CV boot early, there is not reason you should need new axles.

Why would the plenum need replaced if you found oil in it? Can't it be cleaned?

I replaced plenum because it was leaking from the top/seal - after doing boost leak test. - Can't replace seal, took me 4 hours to replace it without dropping the motor.
