About to pull the trigger on '01 996 TT, need advice PLEASE!
firstly I am not stuck on anything, I can turn around and walk away if I see a lemon. But if this is indeed a solid car, why not save few grand and get myself into ultimate performance vehicle for a price of new VW Passat.
For me color combination and lower mileage is more important than perfect condition.
BTW, this is what I built out of rusty barn dweller, my '82 V12 5 speed.

The climate control display can be purchased for around $75 IIRC. Replaced one in my C4S, took about an hour, pretty much plug and play.
Mish... sounds like you're looking for a hobby or project. I wrench and build other people's dream vehicles for 60+ hours a week. I want my own vehicles purrrrfect, flawless and trouble free. I will pay what is necessary to get that before taking delivery.
I see your situation is different. Rebuilding and continuously fixing stuff may be fun for some, I did it in my younger days when I couldn't afford what I really wanted. Good Luck!

Got the car, so far not bad.
Surprisingly nice interior, not a single rubbed off button, perfect seats, even floor mats are super nice.
Very pleasant shifting, good and smooth clutch, very smooth engine. I tried to find clunky rattle I heard from local Turbo 911 and this one has none of it. I only hear slight valve lisp at idle, which drowns in exhaust noise at higher RPM.
Power is tough to tell, I am feathering pedals, not wanting to be stranded in the middle of Miami, but I seem to gain on cars in front of me way too quick
Boost kicks in around 3000 rpm and goes up to 0.8 bar, maybe more, but I did not notice the number.
The only electric issue so far is rear spoiler level failure, it moves up and down, but still complaints on the dash.
Had car on the lift at local shop, undercarriage is perfect, no signs of frame machine clamping on rocker seams, no scrapes, all dry. Got some repair receipts, clutch slave was just done, along with brake pads and front CV boots.
Suspension is some aftermarket struts, with coilovers, will need to bring them up an inch.
19" forged wheels are going to be up for swap, I want something silver and not so close to wheel arches, preferably BBS.
Paint is probably not original, but very good, I found no signs of transitions in door jambs, or under trim, VIN numbers on hood and doors are matching.
JL Audio sound is amazing, but I am too busy listening to the engine.
I am sure I will find something disturbing in this car, otherwise it is too good to be true for what I paid.

I would be interested in wheels! He can stop by Orlando on his way back north and I will swap him some mesh wheels and tires!!
In fact, I will swap my factory suspension also!
