GT2 vs Turbo in reliability

Do the GT2's suffer the same ailments as the Turbo's? Specifically, the coolant hose issue, 2nd gear pop-out, slave cylinder/accumulators (I know the clutch design is different but....), etc.?

Are they more reliable for the track or about the same?

Same coolant pipe design I believe the trans is set up different so the 2nd pop out is not a concern= but not 100% sure..

The GT2 is setup for the track from the start, i.e. LSD/ 2wd, aero design, lighter, beefy transmission, better gearing, suspension, more power from factory......etc.

I am extremely familiar with the car so I know this. My Turbo has just about everything fixed (except the coolant pipes being welded) so I am just wondering if I get decided to get a GT2 for the track am I going to be fixing all of this stuff again. I guess I cannot get around the coolant pipe issue but I'd rather not have to deal with the other problems.

The clutch slave/master has no problems. The 996 gt2 box is the same as a gt3 (oil cooler)but has the same gearing as the turbo. Yes the water lines have the same problems.

Pretty sure this is not correct. The only differences in the transmission are the synchros and an oil cooler (different slave setup too, but that's bolt on stuff.)

As far as more power, the early ones had the same power as the turbo with the X-50 package. A few later ones had a different tune to get another 20hp or so, but nothing that a flash can't beat.

I've always wondered why people buy a gt2 for the track over a gt3

I was wondering myself about the gearbox suffering 2nd gear pop out, do the differences in the Gt2 cure this?

Yea I was thinning GT2RS my bad inreltion to gear ratios, but i know there was a difference inside that neither the x50 or S had. But we are also talking standard Turbo vs GT2 and the GT2 had more power, I know definitely in the later model years.

I can go either GT3 or GT2. I've done this debate before and know the ups and downs of both. My main issue is do I use my Turbo for the track or the street? I have only tracked it a few times but I have come away a little disappointed. I think reliability has been the main culprit and my fear of future problems has kept me on the street.

GT3 is track car. 996TT is comfy, fast street car. Too heavy to be a serious track car.

GT2 LSD sux, wears out in a few track days. Transmission is the same but adds a cooler. Same power from the engine as the TT w/ K24s. GT2 is a great out of the box starter track package but for serious track work will still need $10K-$15K in upgrades. You can convert a TT to GT2 and beyond but it will cost about $30K-$35K+ to do so. Been down that road myself with my conversions as I've done it top to bottom..

Coolant hose / pipes have same possibility of issue as GT3/Turbos. Same goes for 2nd gear as TT, but don't think I've ever seen one reported. Not a lot of GT2s out there for comparison.

Personally, never really worried about reliability on any of these cars. Maintenance is quite $pendy though.

I think anytime you introduce added complexity with items like PSM, FWD system, clutch accumulator, sunroof, heated seats, subwoofer, etc., then your reliability will be reduced over a GT2 which lacks all these items. My car doesn't have any of this so I'd have to guess that reliability is on par with a regular GT2.
