I will soon or later remove the tranny from my 996TT for a clutch check up. I have a 4 post lift at home and sitting from underneath the car with all the space and desirable height, does an average man is capable of holding the transmission and pulling it out of the car alone with his hand a arms ? Do we really need a transmission jack ?

hell no man, you can't do it by hand, impossible. You can buy a cheap transmission jack for like 300$ and it will be well worth it, that's for sure.

 

You need some source of help, it is not that it is that heavy but it is awkward, so either straps or friends but a Hyd lift is best for sure.... If you drop the thing you are very potentially going spend hundreds or even thousands to fix what you just broke !!!!

 

A true Canadian can do it alone, in the wind and drunk!

When I was in my twenties I would lay on my back and remove/install turbo 350/400 and I still could but wouldn't lol.
