Over a year ago, I came upon a Viper with a license plate frame that read: “Today’s Special . . . Smoked Porsche.” I offered up my car for smoking, but the driver declined.

This morning, I attended a small gathering of cars at Village Coffee in Calabasas: http://www.motorsportsunday.com/ . There was a silver C6 Vette present with the same license plate frame -- I took a photo, which is attached to this post. Turns out that this is the same guy who previously owned the Viper, and he had the frame custom made. Why you ask . . . because, according to him, Porsches are inferior cars . . . he expressly mentioned current model TTs as being inferior. He proudly shared the story of his supposed friend who, after briefly owning a 996TT S, traded it in for a superior C6. I again offered up my “inferior” Porsche” for “smoking,” but he sheepishly declined.

It is bad enough that this guy is disparaging Porsche owners, but it is pathetic that he does so without the ability to back up his challenge. It would be one thing if the frame was on a 9 second Lingenfelter TT Vette. This guy has a largely stock C6, and he cannot even smoke a stock 996TT, let alone a modified one.

Craig I wish he had taken you up on the offer...unreal...one thing that I think we all agree on is we are realistic about our cars performance aspects and know what is can and can not do. Your car just from reading about it sounds like a scary animal...

Actually, the green one is not real (the black one is real). According to a guy there who restored both cars (thats his biz), there were only eleven convertible Hemi Cudas made . . . he says that the owner of the "Number 1" of eleven is a friend of his and he recently turned down over $5 million. He modified the green car to resemble a convertible Hemi Cuda.

I did not photograph the entire car . . . it is a silver C6 convertible with red seats . . . no distinguishing characteristics (it looked like an after-market exhaust, but I am not an expert in such things). The owner appears to be in his 50s, clean shaven, with jet black hair (looks unnaturally dyed to me).

Tell the guy to stop being "a *****" take his panties off & run you. It's easy to talk trash (& not back it up), but it's a little tougher when you have to back it up. Like you said, it's different if he had a modded to the hilt Corvette or Viper, but a stock Corvette...maybe Boxsters.

 

I think he is just an inferior driver...or maybe he has an inferior job and can't afford the TT

Sounds like another case of "get em wet in a vette", probably the only way he can.

When I hear someone make outrageously unbelievable performance claims I like to make even larger claims right back at them ... claims of almost biblical proportions completly unfounded hitherto unheard of, gargantuan proportions.

It really annoys them because it's absolutely obvious you are making fun at them.

I've only ever had my *** kicked twice for doing this.
