K16 Billets, 5bar, and updated tune installed
Yesterday I finished installing the K16 Billet turbos, 5 bar, and tune from Markski and the improvements going from just a tune/exhaust on my 2001 996T are huge
Mark helped me on the phone throughout the entire install when needed.
I mentioned that I would like to hopefully keep the stock clutch until early next year and Mark sent me three different tunes with a slightly lower boost to help protect the clutch. Once I get the updated clutch he will send me an updated tune(s) to fully utilize the K16 billets.
The customer support really is second to none!
Below are the improvements:
*much less turbo lag
*significant and even increase in power
*boost comes on quicker (K16 billets seem to spool up faster)
*it pulls to redline better.
*the tune itself is better and my car starts off from a dead stop better.
*more instant throttle power than before.
*car still drives as smooth as stock.
Mark,
Thanks again!
It is really an awesome improvement!

I hope my clutch holds up.

Several days ago I went for a drive early in the morning when the temperature was about 62F. On a nice desolate straight road I slowly started in first and put it in second. At about 15 mph I pushed the pedal to the floor and for the first second it was a smooth acceleration getting stronger the closer I came to 3000 RPM. Then I was at the full 1.2 bar boost and reached about 70 mph before changing gears near redline. The total time from starting in 2nd gear at WOT was about 2.5 or 3 seconds.
Other than the extra power I really noticed that the acceleration is smoother than before. My new Michelin Pilot Sports did not spin (unlike the Kuhmo tires that came with the car. I put these tires back on when I go to the track though as they are 1/2 price of the Michelins).

I am just learning on the track with only one DE weekend under my belt.
Yes you are right that the Michelin Pilot Sports will do better on the track but I will not be taking it to the limit initially and the Kuhmos apparantly are 90% as good as the Michelins on the track. From personal road experience I do not agree and the Michelins seem much better. They really stick like glue on a smooth road going straight and do great on the twisty mountain roads here in the Carolinas.
I am trying to make the good tires last somewhat and burn the cheaper Kuhmos down on the track. Hopefully I will not eat my words and run off the track doing damage to my car or worse.

Nah man, don't jinx yourself and just keep away from that last 10%.
Carolina roads... wish we had something like them here on LI. Everything local is like a mishmash of potholes, "repaired" sections, and just downright crappy pavement.
