Thoughts on this TT guys
My thoughts exactly. Silver is the most common color, so there shouldn't be a price premium. Also, most people that like silver want a black interior. I personally like the interior but the combo is kind of strange with silver.
I wouldn't replace an S class DD with a 996TT though

I just bought my 01 tt with 10k and paid $43k. Maybe too much for the car but NADA or KBB doesn't seem to hold realistic values for these cars at least what I am seeing. Another local guy had an 01 with 38k and wouldn't take $42k. Also claimed the dealer offered him that much. I told him he should have taken it if trading since it would save him another 10% in sales tax. I couldn't see anything under $40k with decent mileage. Maybe I was just impatient
FYI. I've had my 03 with 55k for sale for a bit. Almost zero interest, except for a local guy that wants to "drive" it.
I listed it for 42000 but it is modded quite a bit and some frown on that.
I don't really want to sell it so I'm not bothering with price drops or anything.

Its weird how some dealers have such high price expectations and are willing to sit on cars for so long.
I'd be happy paying anything less than $41k.
I'm curious though why some of you are saying that it would bad switch to give up an S-class for a 996TT. My daily drive is very short.

If you love the car and would buy it at the "right" price, get and pay for a PPI. With all of this done, give the car an assessment based on their asking price and the big valuation players, NADA and KBB. You may ask your bank and CU what they think the correct retail valuation is.
Once you have established what you would pay for this car, submit a letter of intent and offer to the Sales Manager, with a copy to the Used Car Sales Manager. Explain that you have checked the car out very thoroughly, had a PPI done and you will purchase the car right now today for $XXXXXX. Enclose a cash/check earnest money deposit/down payment.
Also have a Letter of Credit from your bank/CU stating you have been pre-approved for a loan. A recent statement from your bank or CU showing amounts in CDs, savings, etc.
Salesmen write several low ball offers a day from people that are speculating or dreaming and many can't even afford to even by a car. Many have terrible credit, no credit, low paying jobs, are already up side down financially, etc.
Doing what I advised will get their attention and show them the only reason for you NOT to buy the car right now is price. They have control of this and can make it happen.
Nick,
I appreciate the information, but I've purchased a number of cars and have a pretty good feeling about the process. I've had a trusted friend look at the car, so really the only thing missing is the PPI.
I will not be using financing for the purchase so thats a moot point. I can give them a deposit or just send them a cashiers check.
Realistically my big concern is that i'm not 100% sure its a smart choice to make and some of you telling me not to make the switch are giving me some second thoughts.

If your drive is short and free of traffic, then the 996TT will be just fine as a DD. If you have a longer commute and often sit in traffic, there is no way I would give up the S class. It is just frustrating sitting in traffic in a car with 400+ hp and nowhere to go; I prefer to drive my Merc ML for that; I just listen to some music and let the car drive me

Same color as mine, almost same mileage, but $18K more than I paid.
Price is what keeps her at the dealership.
Clean 996 TT sells like water in the middle of desert, but not when it is $10K+ above reasonable value.

Just to be clear, you bought a 996TT with 50k miles (clean title) for $32,000?
Ask about money spent on repairs after purchase. You will not buy a clean car optioned as the one your looking at with 50k miles for 32k that passes a real ppi. I bought my car with 12500 miles two years ago and other then an alignment rear tires that it really didn't need not one dime spent other then regular oil changes etc. There are some deals out there don't get me wrong but the facts of life is you get what you pay for 95 of the time. I wouldn't over pay but if you get that car for 42-45 and it passes a good ppi enjoy it.

I suggested that it is $10K overpriced and not $18, because $32K is indeed very low for any running 996TT.
I can guarantee you that any 12 y/o car, even with 20K miles on it will have suggested and necessary repairs, take it Porsche dealer and you will have thousands of $$ in "needed" maintenance.
Previous owner paid a lot more, immediately spent $3K+ on maintenance, before he realized that car of his dreams is a nightmare to own for a guy with 0 car knowledge and nowhere to go with 400+ hp.
I was looking for a deal and very specific color / options combo, so certain things did not matter to me, however I did pass up on few festive colors, convertibles and automatics. 50K miles is not a low miles for these cars, however they are good for 150, if properly maintained. This is probably the only car in "supercar" category, that is reliable and daily derivable. Even most 10 y/o Ferrari will not give you better performance, but will definitely give you a lot more expenditures and lot less versatility.
Mish Mish you did the work yourself which is great but this person will more then likely not and also your car had accident history as I recall. There are quite a few people recently that come on site touting the cheap prices and then spending big money on repairs. I guess a different type of buyer is coming aboard with the cars getting older/cheaper. That said the prices have held steady and current owners bashing fair retail prices are nuts in my opinion. Looking for a fair price and playing how low can I go are two different things. If you want to see a good return on your car keep it stock and have another daily driver, if you mod or drive it everyday take it on the chin and just enjoy=these are great cars. I personally have my car just because I love taking it out once a week or so and relaxing. Original poster if you plan on driving in traffic every day etc get the other car you mentioned if you want a great performance car for occasional drives get the 996tt. But whatever you do don't fall for you can get a great car at wholesale pricing as Ill bet you lose.
