Thoughts on this TT guys
Mish Mish you did the work yourself which is great but this person will more then likely not and also your car had accident history as I recall. There are quite a few people recently that come on site touting the cheap prices and then spending big money on repairs. I guess a different type of buyer is coming aboard with the cars getting older/cheaper. That said the prices have held steady and current owners bashing fair retail prices are nuts in my opinion. Looking for a fair price and playing how low can I go are two different things. If you want to see a good return on your car keep it stock and have another daily driver, if you mod or drive it everyday take it on the chin and just enjoy=these are great cars. I personally have my car just because I love taking it out once a week or so and relaxing. Original poster if you plan on driving in traffic every day etc get the other car you mentioned if you want a great performance car for occasional drives get the 996tt. But whatever you do don't fall for you can get a great car at wholesale pricing as Ill bet you lose.
I honestly got lucky, because I expected a lot more surprises from 13 y/o car, with accident in the past, but I would not recommend my scenario to someone who sees mechanic for every little thing.
This particular specimen is for sale for so long is because it is way overpriced. Any running 996TT is worth at least $35K+, but asking $50K this 2002, it should have around 25K miles, not 50.

Looks like a nice car but as stated, 50 is too much.
FWIW I bought an 02 2 weeks ago and paid 38.5 with champion wheels, exhaust, etc. Very nice upgrades and flawless interior, silver w/ black (77k miles though).

I paid slightly more than your budget but it included significant mods to the engine and audio, OEM CF package, and records/history from previous owners. As far as color combo, I'm told speed yellow demands a bit more than any other color then red, basalt black, etc (thanks Garth). $50k is too much for stock and color especially in that market.
I think I know who you are referring to. OP if you are in NJ, PMiller has a 996tt recently traded in at the lot. I've been happy with my purchases there, as well as service. Their cars don't sit on the lot too long either. I've had to drop a deposit on both cars just to hold until I could test drive them. Fair pricing even flexible pricing and they will hunt down an extended warranty to meet your needs.
Have you considered Stilov's car? PPI is fine but there's nothing like getting the full history and "feel" of a car. With our turbo, the dealership introduced us to the previous owner, who in turn introduced us to the owner before him. Both have asked for visitations even though they both have upgraded their rides. Three generations of owners cruising and hanging together.
Stilov- our turbo is highly modded the way we would have if we bought stock. I was a bit reluctant until I spoke with the previous owners. I felt at ease hearing about how enthusiastic they were, the work put in, and maintenance. The right owner will come. Hope your baby will find a nice home soon.
+1
My husband's commute is 20 minutes down 295, and mine in the opposite direction with average traffic flow of 85+ mph. I'd go for the turbo if you commute is short and fast. If bumper to bumper, I'd take the comforts of MB.
Good luck!

Yes 40k is more in line but for me I don't mind over spending a bit to get what I want. I paid 47.9k two years ago for mine and have never regretted it and would spend that today if looking.
$40k sounds like a fair price. Dealers tend to list these cars really high. Mine was listed for $45k and I paid $38.5k with little trouble. Mine had a fender bender as well but the PPI just came up with the rear bumper being repainted; that's it. It may hurt me a bit on resale but I don't plan on selling this car for a long time anyway. I had my bimmer for 10 years; I'll probably do the same with this one.

I don't want a modded car and would like something with a brown interior.
thanks for the input.
I do my own work also but most do not= that's why. I was trying to look out for you so not to take a price on a car that needed work with a collision history as a comparison point for a car your considering.
One more thing, when I was looking for mine, southern past was a major plus for me. Cars from TX, SoCal and such are aging a lot slower then units from wet and salty east coast. So if I was to overpay a little, that would be for a southern beauty.
I remember one NYorker selling his TT on eBay, stating that came with extra set of snow wheels, LOL...

Yes the southeast does have salt and bad weather to muck up undercarriage etc. Luckily mine was not driven in winter and was garaged its whole life. Just check the car out rusted fastners etc are easy to spot.
Interesting. PMiller is about 5 minutes from my parents house and I've had the opposite experience. From the parts department adding 100% mark up to msrp on little stuff, to salesman not calling me back, to ridiculous pricing on a variety of used vehicles. I'm not a fan.

My car is the same color with black interior. I like the combo however agree the price is too expensive I paid 50 CAD for my car with 45,000 kms and mine is a 2003. That was 1 month ago. Hope that helps
car is now at an auction. If it doesn't sell the dealer will want to chat with me. They agreed to a PPI.
I'm now trying to find whats up with the auction so maybe I can buy it through there.
