Brakes Squeak when NOT applied

The sound is a super subtle high pitch noise. Almost sounds like keys hitting each other and a key chain (sounds like front left wheel). It goes away as soon as the brakes are applied. Pads have at least 50% left and rotors seem to be in good shape. Nothing visible and they feel smooth to the touch.

It definitely happens once a rotation.

I don't really wash my car (just wipe it down) so I figured it was a build up of brake dust. I just cleaned the front brakes thoroughly, but it did not seem to make a difference.

Side note, it does not matter whether or not the car is in gear.

Despite the subtle sound. It is embarrassing

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Sounds like the pads moving on the carrier.

Qcktrbo is infamous around these parts
Dear Sir, I'm going to say it might be the type of brake pads you have on the car(?). Maybe perhaps go on a freeway and get the car up to the speed limit and then perhaps push the brakes hard a few times without anyone behind you to clear up a layer or so on the pads because tree might be some glazing??? Or put some fresh pads on and get the rotors re-surfaced.

I will try to re-bed the pads. Sounds like I need to do some late night driving.

Not really I have not fooled with my brakes as of yet but most have some type of retainer spring clip etc. I would check them out clean where the pads ride on the carrier and lightly grease.

It's not that difficult. I am just short on time in my life these days.

I will try to re-bed them first.

Thanks for your input.

Haha. The exhaust I have on the car is the loudest I have heard on a Turbo.

I am 99% sure it is not a wheel bearing. The noise stops as soon as the brakes are applied.

lift the front of the car so the wheels are of the ground and rotate the wheel see of you get any sound. Best. Is to take pads out and inspect
