Long time no chat... So I've searched all over and have read all threads relating to my issue, nothing seems to really hit the nail on the head though. So, I'll ask some pretty straight forward questions and see who might have an answer for me...
I'm in the same boat as others who are unable to put more than 10-12 gallons of fuel into their tank, even when it's close to empty. I don't often run my tank below 1/4 (according to the gauge) and I too have read that we're supposed to have 16+ gal tank in these things.
The other day when I was filling up from about 1/4 tank (per the gauge) at a BP, the pump clicked off at around 10.5 gallons. I then removed the plastic cover from my tank/pump and disconnected the little plastic valve thingy at the top of the tank.
I stole this pic from Tim941NYC and drew in an arrow... (Thanks Tim )
Now, as soon as I unplugged that line, there was a long PSSSSHHHHHHHHH (of air) coming out of the tank (I made sure there were no open flames or sparks near by), so I started pumping again. I was able to get almost 2 more gallons into the tank (that nipple at the top of the tank was PSSHHHing the whole time I was pumping gas) and the pump finally clicked off when my tank was done taking fuel (no massive spill down the side of the car like I've caused a few times in the past)...
My question... is that piece that I removed the same as #3 in this diagram?
And if so, should I replace this whole thing, or is the problem perhaps where that line leads to (the charcoal canister I think)... ?
Under the battery there is a sensor part #996 606 205 00 it is under the battery tray. I would start there. One time I had my battery disconnected and my car would not take any fuel. If I pulled that vent off it will take fuel. Your diagram is not for a turbo.
