Hi,
Moving over from the C2 forum (had it for about a year), the C2 was a fantastic experiment (wasn't sure if I could live in the Carrera with two kiddos) and now I just picked up the car I have been drooling over . . . for the past 10 years. A Seal Grey TT, love it--
From the M5 Board, we lost many an E39 member to this car and I know why (ard, I see you . . . though he has/had both), what a tremendous car! I hope to be a good contributor, but anything for a car that has been out for this long, most topics have already been covered! Anyway, here's my question for you:
The car I bought has RUF modular wheels (the original invoice is $6,800 including Pirelli Rossos), sadly I don't love them. The PO kindly replaced the tires with brand new rubber (nubbies still attached), so that is a nice bonus. I do eventually want to change wheels, if it were you, would you:
-Try to sell locally with new rubber (too HEAVY to ship)
-Try and trade locally (dodgy option)
-Roll on the rubber until they need replacing and then sell wheels (expecting to ship)
I am leaning to the third option, but I just don't know how desirable these RUF modulars are; I do know RUF does tend to get folks' attention! Thanks for your thoughts, KH

I like them also but not in love either lol. I would sell while the tires are new and wheels in good condition= a lot can happen in 10k or so. Shipping isn't that bad and believe they would sell quickly and agree would pass on the trade.
Love the wheels! I think you should keep them, they add a lot to the car. ant_8u and I seem to have always had the same taste in wheels and fitment! Hope your doing well buddy
I would sell as a complete package, mainly because I don't like the Pirellis. I had them on my previous 996 I owned for 7 years, had them on my Boxster too. As they age and wear they get very noisy and I don't think they handle well for a street tire. They may work when up to temp and pushed really hard like a slick but they are pretty slippery on the street for sporty street driving.
I'd remove the wheels and get what you want. They're enough people that love Ruf stuff that they should sell quickly. What wheels do you like?

Hey Bud!
Both great cars, have both.
Shipping is not too bad- Probably $200 or less. Tires alone should be 100. I think there is a detailed thread in the wheel and ttire forum on packing and shipping wheels/tires.

Post them up in classifieds. The actual shipping is actually not the problem, the packaging is. Unless you have access to the supplies needed to ship, it is a pain in the **** some times.
Put them up for local pick up. Heck shoot me a pm with what you are looking to sell them for, I might be interested. I actually like the looks of those wheels.

Thank you for the replies, super-excited about the car and this board, seems like a good bunch of guys (like the M5board and NSX Prime). It's good to see, as you never know from board to board . . .
I appreciate the thoughts, I really expected shipping would be a bear, I'm used to shipping watches (another of my problem areas) and it always seems to be a hassle. Allow me to respond to your questions and comments:
rmc1148: Yeah, I hear you. They are perfect now (just dirty, I will have to really look them and their condition over this weekend, I was a little distracted with the whole package during the purchase), I hate to screw up someone else's wheels
DaveMo: you are probably right, I can clean them up and post them them in just a short while, though that means I need to find what I want immediately (bummer)
ant_8u: Maybe we should chat offline at some point. I have no issue shipping to the UK as long as you don't mind paying for it
No clue what that will cost, but I would be game.
nick49: A couple wheels have caught my eye (I may not be sophisticated enough for the RUFs yet), I seem to be gravitating to the BBS LMs and the Champion RG5s
LiNks: Yeah, I like them, but the owner should have YOUR reaction every time they walk up to the car, not mine. I feel that a wheel so special (RUF), should be in the right home. I'm weird . . . I already know
ard: nice to see you, I was always jealous of you on the M5board . . . I guess I still am. I miss my M5, darn good car
LuvPorsche: Thought it would be WAY more than that, good to know. Never shipped/bought wheels and tires; thanks so much for offering to help, let's see how this goes . . .
Thanks again, I do appreciate it, KH

9 months have passed since this post, the RUFs have grown on me, but I appear to be leaning towards my option #3 . . . as I have put 5,000 miles on my 2002 and I have politely not curbed someone else's wheels
Here's the wheel that has grabbed my attention, I may even be motivated enough to make a move; it's a COR Cipher Light Concave. This pic is a 20", I think I am leaning towards a 19", but I just don't know . . . KH

Before you make a decision on 19s, check out tire availability. It seems there's always a thread about how hard it is to find the right 19" sizes for the 996TT.
What about 18s? I think OZ makes a wheel similar to the pic you provided.

that pic is also a 997! dont get 19's! get some ( like the suggested OZ ) or even better the champion rg5's! great looking and well made wheel! or some gt3 wheels if you like that look. i hate those ruf's lol but to each their own!
what's your budget? that will often help you make your decision!

Sorry for the delay, end of quarter . . .
You guys are right, I went to Tire Rack for the following sizes: 235/35 19 and 315/25 19
And received 0 results back. Sure, I probably can hunt around and find something, but checking on tire availability was a good call. Checking back with COR to see what other wheel size options I have (including 18s), last thing I want to do is be hunting for tires-- KH
