New 996TT owner
Hi all,
Been lurking around here for awhile. Anyway, finally got the courage to join not only the forum, but the world of 996TT owners also. My old man had a 1988 911 Carrera Coupe and I had always wished he had gotten a Turbo since I was a kid. Well, that never happened, and judging from the values of the air cooled ones, well it may have been worthwhile. Well, as they say, could of, should of, would of.
Regardless, I know these 996's haven't really held their value and don't really seem to be a favorite amongst Porsche enthusiasts. Honestly, I've always liked them. Maybe it's because they came out when I was in high school and back then when I first saw them, I had to have one. Needless to say, I'm in a better position life wise and financially to own one now than I was in high school, so I've taken the plunge, and most likely done the irresponsible thing and purchased one.

Pretty much a stock car. The boost dos go up to 1.2 bar though, so I suspect it has been flashed. Couple minor things though, the tail lights have minor cracks in them. Wasn't planning on replacing them until they got really bad though. Also, I had a PPI done and they told me the wrong coolant is in it. It has green coolant and supposedly Porsche coolant is pink? I was reading up on it though, and it seems as if the older Porsche coolant may be green. Should I have this flushed? Also, the spare tire is missing, so if anyone has a lead on where to get a good deal on one please let me know.
Also, I paid $35.5k for this car. It has just under 59,000 miles on it. No X50, no heated seats, no PCCB, so I guess it must be a more bare bones one. Not sure what kind of deal I got on it, as always, I'm sure it could have been better, but it seemed like a "fair" deal to me, and the PPI told me it was clean. What do you guys think of the pricing? Honestly, I'm just curious. It doesn't really matter to me too much, because even if I paid more than I should have, it puts a smile on my face every time I turn the key, so in my book that is worth something to me.
Anyway, hope to spend some time on here and learn a bit while I'm at it along with meeting some cool people also.
If any of you have some good advise or piece of mind to tell me, please feel free!

Sounds like you got a good deal, is it a 6spd? The coolant can be flushed and changed and I do believe some early cars had green coolant. The tail lights tend to crack at attachment points I replaced mine= you may want to check out the thread on possible leds coming soon.
Yes it's a 2002 and a 6 speed. Couldn't bring myself to buy a tiptronic, although from what I hear the new pdk is pretty awesome. I also looked at 997tt but couldn't bring myself to spend $80k+ for a 997.2tt. I believe it's midnight or lapis blue, whatever they call it. The brown interior, well, I wasn't really fond of it, but honestly it has kind of grown on me. No mods planned, I want to keep it fairly stock, of course that's what I said about several R6's that I own also. So we will see how long that lasts.
Just out of curiosity, what are you guys paying for insurance? I'm currently paying about $70 per month for 300k/500k/100k and comp and collision through USAA. Just curious if I should be shopping around more.

You got a very good deal if you also have all the records going all the way back, and if many of the common breakdown items have been taken care of. Seems 996TT pricing is very low right now, not sure why.
green was the old coolant while pink is the new.. well, i said i would stop being political
i would change ALL fluids to establish a baseline with coolant being the least important providing the car has no leaks ( expansion talk or rad(s). remember to use the audi/vw g13 and to mix it 50/50 distilled.
congrats on the car! and welcome to the madness
if those are chromed twists? i'd put those out on your next trash pickup day, ( unless ou enjoy them ? ) but enjoy what you've got. modding is an insidious potentially costly, and unavoidable side effect of ownership lol.
good luck! lol

As for insurance, there is thread on it here: https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...t-996-gt2.html

Nice color combo i paid 36k for mine with 38k miles its an 03 not x50 no heated seats. I care less about extra options But i had to dump 5k to fix stuff. Btw you can always flush it and change the coolant if you worry about that. As far tail lights i have same problem shows small cracks up top. Im not worry about that either. Its probably from slamming or car been hit sligthly As far price. Same here i could find one with no!problems and x50 but i had to have black and 6spd with gray interior.

Great looking car. It looks like midnight blue. Check the sticker under the front hood for the color code. If it goes to 1.2 bar, yes, it is probably flashed. You got it for a great price. I would swap out the coolant. Also, down load the shop manuals from the sticky on the top of the 996TT page. Great resource. Where are you located in CA? Welcome aboard.
If you are in the SF Bay area, ck this link: It appears to possibly match what you are looking for. But not completly sure. Might not be collabsable. http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/pts/4677776913.html
