New B&M SSK

Someone here posted in another thread which I can not find now an ew B&M short shift that fits under the car and looks like the RUF one...Anyone know where I can get one and how much??
Also, anyone tried this in combination with the in-the-car B&M?? Any feedback?? can you do both or is this the replacement product for the other??
TIA

Auction ended, however just call Brandywine Porsche and speak with Justin.

I would not recommend both units on the car. I had both the B&M and Techart installed months ago, and while the shift was extremely short, the effort required to shift was too much.

Stick with the old B&M SSK.

Mansour,

Let me know if you know more information on reduction % and price. I am definitely interested! The standard B&M is not short enough for me.

Mansour,
I have the B&M up top with the Ruf set at 40% below. Can't get enough, the shiftingand I'm thinking about moving the Ruf to 50%. Although it does get a little bit notchier, the shorter throw is worth it to me. In a few days you won't even remember how it felt before, kind of like the adjustment when you go from stock to B&M.

sentipede...

I have the RUF piece sitting in my garage, but I'm a little confused about the instructions...Does it require you to remove the rear center console again??? Or, do all the parts go on the bottom??? It talks about loosening the shift cables, are those the top or bottom (or both) of the cables???

I'm going to install mine ( B&M kit number 45183 for Turbos ) in the next few minutes. First thing I'm going to do is to make sure the OEM lower mounting bolt is long enough for that black cable retention bracket , since unlike TechArt , the B&M kit forgot to include a longer one , though it's in B&M 's photocopied TechArt directions. ( Gee, I wonder who made it for B&M )
There are three different kits ( the machined 2-pc alum blocks are different ) , one for reg 996, one for TT, one for GT3/GT2. The reg 996 one is $175 and the TT one is $195 from Brandywine , compared to $295/$495 from RUF for the same thing.

Where can we get that bolt?? Id definitely e-mail/call B&M and let them know...Also, make sure you MARK your shift cables before doing anything!! or buy the porsche shift tool (assuming you have a stock shifter - it wont fit the in the car B&M)

No need to mark the shifter cables for these undercar kits as the cables ends are not touched at the front end. B&M says the kit was made in Europe for them and they don't know anything about the hardware. Brandywine says all the kits were packed the same. ByDesign says they reused the stock bolt as it is long enough if you have at least 4 turns . I'll let y'all know.

I'm done with the B&M undercar SSK ! Very easy - the OEM lower bolt is plenty long enough - I got 5.5 full turns before fully reseated. OEM shift **** throw was 6.5" from 3rd to 4th gear - now it's 4.25" as set at the " 30 %" reduction hole. Choices are 10/20/30. Had read where Porsche doesn't recommend greater than 30% reduction on their race cars , BTW. ( Console shifter is left stock).

Im a little nervous about mixing the two units. Are there any problems with using both on the same car.

Yes- the instructions and pictures are the same as the Tech Art - down to the exact same inscrutable German to English translation. B&M customer rep told me it's made for them in Europe so their own engrs know nothing about it and it's not even in their catalog. As I posted, the stock T-55 Torx head cable bracket bolts are plenty long enough . The only thing is, there are two extra short allen bolts and washers packed in all the kits shipped to Brandywine Porsche . Don't ask me how places like ByDesign ( they charge $350 ) and Brandywine got them. I heard a rumor B&M may not carry these very long.
I'd call Brandywine and speak to Jay ASAP to get one before they are gone. They've sold around 10-20 in the past couple of weeks. List is $599 - their price $195. Compare to TechArt and RUF identical kits for $500-600. In fact , that 2-pc alum block on the RUF kit has to be modded ( hole enlarged ) to fit some Turbos . Mine fit perfectly. It's exactly what I wanted : 34% front/back shortening, but same smooth effortless stock movement with improved solid feeling of the synchro rings at engagement and VERY important to me, stock side-to side distance from 1/2 plane to 3/4 plane to 5/6 plane so as not to end up in 2nd when downshifting rapidly from 5th to 4th ( crunch/kaboom ) !
One more thing, the 3rd to N and N to 4th throws were equally shortened. I had read somewhere a while back that these undercar kits only shortened in one direction - that's wrong.
I'm very pleased. Having done one, if I had the car up on a lift, I could do the next one in 10 minutes flat - it's that easy.
