i know when layinback had his trans built it was close to 16,000$. there was a fully built trans that was for sale on here never installed that sold for 18k$ i believe .

Put it this way, I know of several 1000-1200hp cars that got everything soup to nuts, ALL the bells and whistles, some that aren't necessary, for around $10-12k.

I personally did everything new, GT2RS gears 1-3 and GT2RS Main shaft, brand new synchos 1-2, steel synchos 3-6, all new GT2RS main bearings and 4 point bearings, new nuts and bolts.....etc. This plus labor cost me, total $4500.

Bill Rader Motorsport built my trans, I got the parts.......

Bill did my transmission and it was almost 14,000. That doesn't include the labor to have it removed or put back into the car.

All I can say since my car is a daily driver and is a great bang for the buck package,,,
I am glad now I don't make that Big Boy power because to me its not worth worrying about knowing I will have to pay that for a trans a lot sooner then maybe later or never...

just because one can spend that kind of money on replacing transmission parts, doesn't mean they have to. lot's of legerdemain going on when it comes to repairs/quotes on the g50 box lol... as if it's some kind of mystery school science.

So my posting of 5000$ in parts and up to 8000$ in labor was WAAAY off from your 4500$ in parts and 10k to 12 k your speaking of? Now I'm no college grad but 1000$ isn't anywere near WAAAY off. In fact I would bet if you didn't have 20000$ in engine work done it would be almost spot on. What was your labor cost if you spent 4500 in parts?

Took a lot of time and effort and numerous phone calls to nail everything down exactly, like the bolts and washers that are not reusable and various little things but it was worth it by the amount of money I saved. I didn't have someone leading me the whole way I did it on my own and saved a lot of money.....

Actually your post says "this plus labor cost 4500$and I took it to mean labor was extra. Since you supplied the parts what was the labor cost?

997GT2 1-3 main shaft fits into our gearboxes. I was told the RS doesn't. Are you sure that's what was put in? Can you post up the mainshaft and gear part numbers please?

I'm positive, bought them myself. Sorry don't have part numbers and it took ALOT of work to get every proper part needed doing it on my own and learning simultaneously.

And its GT2RS....... the 3.15 first gear is a game changer in my opinion. So much more enjoyable street driving.

The 7GT2 is 3.15/1.89/1.40. We might be talking about the same thing. That's why I was wondering what the mainshaft part number is that you used...

I think people use the term 7GT2 and 7GT2RS interchangeably or the parts may be the same. Just saw these two threads in the first post of both they are listing the "997GT2RS" mainshaft and 3rd gear but when you look them up in PET they in fact come up as 07-09 997GT2. I'll check the latest PET but according to Porsche the 7GT2RS is supposed to have different gearing from the 7GT2. I'll find out for sure.

I don't know I just know what I put in for an order. They were GT2RS gears.

A minute ago you said you were sure 997gt2 gears didn't even fit in the 996 turbo box. Sounds like you have more research to do. Maybe contact sunset porsche directly and talk to them.

Did some digging and Porsche used the 97.88 997GT2 gearbox (97.88) on the RS. All same part numbers for the gearbox and internals... Mystery solved...
