Ive been a big fan of the Sportec lip ever since I started looking at 996's. It seems to be the least cow-catcher'y of the ones available for the turbo bumper. Sadly, it is no longer made and I have not found any replicas to date.
Just curious if there are other people on here who would be interested in having a shop mock one up. It would probably end up being a piece that is designed from the ground up since I have yet to see a used lip go on sale that could be used as a mold.
Note: This is not a group buy thread nor a thread for any specific vendor. I just want to see if there is any interest in it to check around.
I personally would be interested in this spoiler lip made out of CF. Although, with it painted, it blends into that front bumper and looks the bees knees.
Does anyone know if these we're these originally produced like the OEM poly lips or fiberglass with the intention to be painted ?
Sportec is still around so I doubt they will give up the design for the lip and I havent seen one for sale so a mold wont be able to used.
Im sure that any shop that decides to do it can offer it in the preferred material that everyone wants. Right now, I just want to see how many people would be interested in it to at least ask around and see if anyone is willing to do it and possibly ballpark a price. I should probably cross-post for the 4S guys since they share the same bumper.
I really like it. But prefer the $89 ebay aero lip that is a sinch to change out, if and when damaged. It has the same sort of stick out profile and made of polypropylene or similar so it is a bit flexible and very durable. If this lip were flexible, easy to install and cost under $200 I'd consider it.

Fair enough. Everyone has their own preferences. I doubt this one would be in the sub $200 range but it is possible depending on material used. However, I would think there would need to be enough margin in the initial purchase to justify actually creating it from scratch if a used one cannot be found for a mold.
I spoke with a friend of mine that does custom work for high end sports cars to get an idea of what all of this would entail.
He said that, unless an original could be found to make a mold from, this would be seen as a custom piece from any shop. For something like that, they would typically want to do it in a higher end material simply to justify the cost of the prototypes and eventual molding to make it. If you went with a cheaper material it would end up being overpriced because you would have to factor in the start up costs and you couldnt make it back in volume like you could for more common cars.
Just to give you an idea, this is what he said he thinks would be the pricing and materials.
Price - $999
Materials - Hexel 2x2 twill prepeg carbon in 6oz 3K which would be a full carbon piece.
"So, it would be expensive but you would be getting the best of the best when it comes to a carbon piece that is highly durable and something we guarantee for the ownership of the car for our customers"
Granted, this is just what one shop said but I tend to trust his opinion as he does this for a living and usually deals in high end cars.
A thousand bucks for a piece designed to take the first hit? Pass. It looks great, but not that great.
1/10th of that for the knock-off Aero all day.

I figured I would be honest about it from what I heard so people can decide on their own. I wouldnt want it to turn into a nightmare where everyone is pumped up and then get sticker shock.
