Need new brake pads, do i replace rotors too?
Hey guys, my pads are low front and rear and need to be reaced. Car has 60k miles on it now so I'm not sure if it need rotors too. I haven't measured them but I assume they last quite a while just not sure if it's longer than 60k.
How do I know if my rotors need to be replaced? What pads do people recommend?
Car is street only so stock pads and braking power is enough. Was thinkin Hawk HPS or Stop Tech, any feedback on those?
This is my first go at brakes on this car so my knowledge is limited.

You should measure the thickness of your discs. New they are 34mm in front and 28mm in the back and you can go down to 32mm in front and 26mm in the back as per Porsche repair manual page 297. IMHO stick with OEM parts….

Only way to properly tell is to measure rotor thickness. My front rotors were almost paper thin at 55k miles.
Edit: hah! jpflip beat me to it, with a much more useful reply.

JP is on it! As for the brake pads, we have a lot of people that like the Cool Carbon Pads. These pads are well suited for daily driver applications, low noise and dust friendly. We also offer many other brands, for more information Click Here.

+1 on the cool carbon pads. I put them on at 45K miles without changing the rotors. Everything was fine until my second track day, and then any hard stop at over 100mph and the vibration from the rotors told me they were shot.
I just bought a set of Sebro slotted rotors for ~$150 each and another set of cool carbons and it's a great setup!
The CC pads also don't dust too much and that is important to me.

Two things to look for to decide whether the rotors need replacing.
1. (as others have mentioned) Rotor thickness. If either one is below minimum, it's a no brainer - replace. If they are very close, then you have to decide what to do. They are an absolute breeze to change, so I would say if either is close. Change them.
2. Cracks. If you look closely at the rotor, you may see cracks emanating from the holes. If these cracks extend from one hole to another, then regardless of the thickness it's time for replacement.
Good Luck!

I've found some spray on stuff that you can coat your wheels with that allows you to wash brake dust off more easily. Seems to work pretty well and stays on for a few washes easily. I think it's made by the same people who make Armor All but I can look if anyone is interested. You still get dust, it just doesn't stick as badly...

I have a F&R set of newer Stoptech's(est. f=75%, rear ~95%, will measure) I'd sell...PCCB pad sizes, rears fit regardless but front are different if you are 4piston/TT steels...very quiet and fairly low dust;
Wanted more 'bite'-went to PFC pads

I haven't heard of them being that dusty before from anyone else. We can get you a lower-dusting pad, but your not going to want to use it on the track.
