does anyone have any input/experience or thoughts about how these might fit inside the stock 96t bumper with the slats already removed? i suppose this would mean i would have to bail the chicken wire that i currently have preventing my car from sucking up old cig butts and road debris into the rads. but i'm currently in visual upgrade thinking mode, and those might help without replacing the entire fascia?

i would of course NOT put anything into the headlamp as shown in the pics. i think that looks crazy. not happnin'.

I too have looked at some of those wondering if I could make them work with my TechArt style bumper. I notice that in every one of those pictures, when it's a 996, that the car has an aftermarket bumper with a pod already sticking out like a stalk to accept the lights - I think it's the Precision bumper? IMO they won't work with a stock setup or mine

I've seen other lights that could be mounted on top of one of the 996 type slats perhaps and I think there's even a thread here somewhere that details someone having done it. I'd suggest looking for that and seeing if it meets your needs.

but it would be better for me if i could just leave this thing alone. i blame the led's, they really have prompted this desire to upgrade and the fascia is the obvious first choice for me. .... stilovs thread hasn't helped lol i just recently got the strosek ( which is really a techart copy, no? ) wing from precision, it's dope. they make good stuff, then there is also this "extreme motorcars" in santa barbara ca has a presence on ebay. but i think they are just a reseller for precision, but thats just a hunch. ttpopo has done the front drl's in here properly. i think my issue would be that I've removed the slats and thats [problematic as you've mentioned.. i'll keep lookin..

i hear ya steve, but it's already a mongrel of sorts. all i would do is a new front or even just drl's at this point. would much less radical even than a gt2 conversion.

it would either look good ( to me ) or not. but it's hardly sacrilege

did you not like the tails? and if you haven't bought them, have you seen them live and working? very few people would say it isn't a visual improvement, to say nothing of the safety aspect. man, the backups in 'klieg light" white? are awesome to behold. turn indicators same. ..

and yeah +1 re edwin/precision. they are right down the road. cpl mins from the led tails guy!

to me (and again i have said this from the beginning) the tails are a visual disaster. add to this the issues of fogging imperfections and who knows what else i would never buy them. mine are perfect no cracks and old like me. ill keep em.

 

copy that. my old ones were so cracked ( the vertically exterior portion? ), visually faded, and the tabs hanging by sheer providential intervention combined just plain old "luck", that there was never a question as to whether i would put them on? only questions as to when. now i just think the drl's in front would finish its ( ahem ) modernization. not trying to upgrade the look to a FULL 997. that would be excessive. but for me, this was form meet function, start to finish.

 

Looking over that site I no longer see 996 front ends for DRLs that don't also include a 997 light conversion - which also means fenders I believe. Their little navigation thing on the left side is a disaster, they really need to tweak that site for easier navigation!

Do they even sell that anymore? Xtreme still has them on eBay, same picture. We've talked about this before

As for the tail lights - I like them and will purchase them as soon as funds allow. Brighter, faster, and they look updated. I agree the LED DRL up front would also go well with them. I understand they aren't for everyone and that's okay too. My current tails are in fine shape and I hope they stay that way, I'll certainly save them in case of future need. different strokes, different folks. My front bumper, skirts, and rear deck are already 'glass and non-stock so swapping parts doesn't bother me.
