Wavetrac review
Wavetrac review
I'm really glad I drove the car a while with no form of LSD after converting to RWD for a while before having a Wavetrac installed so I can truly appreciate what an improvement it makes! My car drives so much more predictably and smoothly now it is hard to describe but I will try. Of course straight line acceleration is better and on dry pavement there's no more wheelspin after 2nd gear and this is a huge improvement. In any turning situation under power is where it really shines. If I want to slide the back end it is very graceful now where one wheel drive it tended to be very difficult to slide smoothly. This is just a side benefit...I'm not into drifting but I really like being able to control my slides when I feel like it.
When I power out of a corner I can use a lot more throttle and it feels like both rear wheels are actually helping the car turn. The outside wheel feels like it is pushing harder and helping the car corner while the inside wheel contributes to forward momentum without going up in smoke! This is a dramatic difference compared to how it felt with the open diff. I can't wait for my first DE with RWD and the new differential. The price is too good to believe at ~$1200.
Installation was a pain for my shop because one of my carrier bearings was siezed and actually broke their puller! Still, if you're RWD this or a better Guard LSD is a fantastic upgrade and you will not regret it.
One issue is that PSM still gets in my way even when I shut it off. I plan on pulling the power to the pump before going to Thunderhill next month and leaving it deactivated permanently. Does anyone have an opinion for or against doing this?

Fully disabling PSM by disconnecting or removing the pump is the way to go. Treat the car with some respect until you get used to it since the nannies won't be there to help you out of a jam. I would tighten the front sway one notch from where you had it with the open diff to make the car a little more predictable at the limit.
Original estimate was $1100 installed with all parts and new fluids and it ended up taking significantly more time. My shop is good but extremely expensive
Thats why I do all my own work when I can but transmission mods are above my skill level.

congratulations. if more guys knew, more guys would do this. cheers and have FUN. whole different animal now.
Once you exceed a certain amount of slip angle, PSM will intervene even if you have it off with the button. The only way to fully turn it off is by disconnecting it.

or a full blown guard, is nonsensical and even lame. bottom line is, open diff sucks.

You can install a simple on/off which in line with the PSM pump and have it mounted on the plastic shroud in the trunk as seen in the picture below. That way you can have PSM ON/OFF with the button, or a master PSM "totally" OFF with the switch in the trunk.
add: stunned at the possibility of this... outstanding!
