Engine lid release button not working?
Hey everyone, I have been working on my spoiler this week, and have had the engine compartment lid open several times. I have an 01 996tt.
Now I wanted to make some adjustments, and suddenly the button for the engine lid does not work any longer. The front trunk switch does work, so does the key fob remote for the front trunk.
Searched on the subject but didn't find much. The battery is new.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thanks!

- Protect bumper with tape etc.
- Shine a flashlight in gap between taillight and bumper
- Use a hook to fish out the cable.

Thanks, can anyone point me in the direction of why the switch stopt working? I know that may be a wild guess but I find it very odd that it just suddenly stopped working. Also forgot to mention, the switch makes no noise when engaged, as if it's not getting power. I know there are no fuses associated with the engine compartment lid. Anyone have an idea?
The is always at least one fuse related to every electrical component on a car for overload protection. In the case of the engine lid the power comes from the alarm control unit. And the alarm control unit received power from fuse B8, E1 and C3. Take a look at these free fuses...
Good call Flip figured there was probably a fuse in there somewhere lol but personally have never looked= hopefully that will fix it.

Thanks rmc1148, it is difficult to troubleshoot a fault when the signal goes into a control unit because we don't have access to the logic of the CU. But after a good fuse check it is good to check the switch, has you mention, and also to apply power directly to the motor or actuator to see if the unit is at fault….
cant help with the engine lid, but anyone ever needs help with the frunk mechanism not working it's an air vacuum line that operates it and they heat up and go bad. also a 986 shared part. simple fix and same type of failsafe manual cable release. rear I would also guess a fuse as there isn't the same type of air pressured mechanism in the decklid

Got the release switch to work. I checked the fuses, decided to to check other fuses as well, all of them just in case. All fuses were good. I then tried the switch again for hell of it. Sure enough it worked. At this point I am not sure why it didn't work, but I am happy it works again.
