Shifter knob, boot, and bezel
Shifter ****, boot, and bezel
So I've gotten my numeric shifter and cup cables installed. At the point of getting the **** off my stock shifter, encountered it very hard to remove and it sustained some damage in the process. Bummer cuz it is the nicer 997 ****. But my boot and bezel aren't in the best shape either, and I guess from looking that they may only be available as one unit?
What's everyone's aftermarket **** of choice? Stock 996 eats *****. Stock 997 is decent. What's my plan of attack here?

What holds the boot to the bottom of the ****? I think my 997 **** is missing something from the bottom of it.
If I did the rennline I would powder coat it gloss white. Same question tho, what holds the boot to the bottom of the rennline ****?
Also is there a company making aftermarket boots? Custom stitched like in white? My current boot has the plastic trim ring at the base.

I was debating on switching mine out as well just because it is wood grain. I ran across an illuminated one on Ebay from a German company. It is the entire shifter, boot and base for $150. Looks like a possible alternative. I have a Mac and cannot figure out how to cut and paste but search ICT Porsche 996 shifter. 2 different **** options and multiple different illuminated options.
Boot is sewn onto stock ****. Refitting the 997 needs tie wrap to secure boot to ****. Replacement boot on eBay in white stitch if you want. Reuse plastic bottom piece. **** simply pulls off with hurculean effort!
ah, gotcha on the zip tie... turn inside out, zip tie, then it folds over to make a smooth top I guess.
It doesn't look like the plastic piece will come off my boot. I have to look closer i guess.

factory 996 shift boot has to be cut down off the ****. cut it as high as possible and then trim it down. if you want a boot with gold stitching i have one you can have. color didn't match for me. ebay special
I had a custom alcantra boot made for my car and took pictures of the process for the vendor so that others could benefit. Contact http://z-interiors.com/shift-boots Zealous and ask them about it. Pictures of the process can be found here -> http://s272.photobucket.com/user/blk...?sort=3&page=1
Vendor price was VERY reasonable and he's been doing this for Subaru guys and others for awhile, his rep is excellent. You can choose material, stitching, and the result is awesome IMO. I kept the stock **** and didn't have to cut the boot to remove but a previous owner may have. I'd be interested in a better shift **** as mine seems awful light. Lemme know if you have questions and I'll try to answer them!

Pretty close to how mine was done although having a pro do the stitching was better than my attempts I'm sure! Folks can check out the pics I posted, I've also got steps written up that I helped Zealous create that are pretty clear. They provided some really nice glue though, not sure what it was but I'll be using it when I swap shift and e-brake boots on the RSTi soon. His parts really made it easy!
IIRC my Rennline **** came with a thick elastic band for the boot.
