Need some tire size help. Screw 315/25-19's...
Well, so much for PSS this time around I guess. I took your advice and went with the Toyos from Tire Rack. I got them a few days ago and they go on the car next Wednesday. I won't be doing any track time only highly spirited street driving (when appropriate
)so I hope they don't let me down. I've read good and bad reviews of both the T1Rs and the Invos so a I couldn't get a good feel either way. As they say, opinions and ... everyone has one. That said, I decided on the Toyos due to their availability and of course the price made made it easier to say "what the heck, I'll give 'em a shot". Thanks again for mentioning the option was out there. I should have my very own opinion on them soon enough!
I gave up on 19". Could only find Nittos. Dropped backed down to once piece 18" HRE's. Lighter, handles better, stops faster, tires are cheaper. The roads are so bad down here, driving on 19" is a gamble.
^ Funny cause I read "roads are so bad"...let's see where in the boonies he lives.
Nope...he's right here at home in SD. Same bad roads I drive on, with my 19's. Which is why I went from PS2 315/25/19s -> S04 305/30/19s. The ride is incredibly better. To the point that the wife doesn't mind riding in the car again.
The S04's also have the benefit that they don't "slap" on road joints and breaks as loudly.

So, I need a different tire size to run, and rubber in the 315/25-19 variety is getting pretty damn scarce. I have a set of T1Rs right now but have a broken belt in one and need to buy at lest a pair of rear tires. All i can find now is the Mich Pilot Sport PS2 and the Nitto Invo.
I want to go with a different tire size to give me some more choice. I did some research on the 305/30-19s and here is the size differences between the two...

My biggest concern is rub I guess... as this tire is taller by .5" per sidewall, or a full 1.0" in diameter. Is there a tire people are using in place of the 315 that I'm not thinking of?

Sorry about the delay on this man, I totally forgot to come back with an update. The tires have worked out just fine and I have about 1,500 miles of street driving on them now. At first they seemed a bit "greasy", but I read that would go away after about 300 miles when the new casing wore off. I think it was closer to 500 miles before that sensation went away actually, but it did. I haven't experienced any of the flat spot issues that were reported, but it's been warm out (I'm in Nebraska) and it hasn't sat for more than 10 days before driving it again.
To put my review in perspective, I've only owned the car for about a year and it had ancient (circa 2007) PS2 N-spec tires on it that were about half worn when I got it so I don't have a lot of tire feel experience on the 996 turbo. The old PS2s were a little spooky in 70 MPH + sweeping corners and made the car kind of wiggle throughout the turn. These Toyos did that a little at first too, but not as bad and the sensation is almost gone now that I have some miles on the tires.
I do use PSS tires on my daily driver (05 Subaru WRX STi) and ran PS2s on it before they wore out. I absolutely love the PSS tires so much that I put them on my wife's Legacy spec.B too. I was seriously bummed that I couldn't get them for the 911 and somewhat begrudgingly went with the Toyos. I am perfectly happy with the Toyos though and they have performed just fine for moderate to aggressive street use, but that said, when they wear out, and IF I can get the PSS tires, I'll switch to them in a New York minute, I like them that much on the Subies that I drive.
