What rear tires? Michelin PS2 are backordered with no ETA

Hey Guys, new owner her with a 996 turbo. It has aftermarket wheels taking 255 in the front and 315/30/18 in the rear. The car has Michelin pilot sports on it from the previous owner. I think PS2 even but can't tell for sure. Any how I was told this is the stickiest and best tire to get for the car. My rear tires however are bald.

My local NTB "ordered" me some last week. I took the wheels off today, put them in my truck, and went down to get them mounted and got "oh sorry turns out our warehouse didn't have them". Dang it. No ETA on new ones coming in either. Same on line. Tirerack.com originally said ETA 4/24 but that has changed to unknown on their site.

So I need to find something else. What's a good sticky tire? Right now the car blows all four tires in 1st and 2nd and you can't get on it till 3rd. It has K24/18g turbos, exhaust, tune and what not. Supposably makes 650 hp.

Thanks for some feed back. New to the 911 world. My other ride is a supercharged Mustang Cobra. I know exactly what tires to put on it. Feel lost with this car

Malcolm

Good luck as in they stick? soft compound tire? Which ones? I have some Continentals on my BMW and they're horribly hard. Great for mileage but terrible for traction.

I've heard they're pretty decent in the Mustang world. Nothing like the MT I run but decent for a "street" tire. I'm pinging my buddy right now who used to run them for some feed back compare to the NT05R and MTs he's run too.

My local Porsche dealer was able to locate 2 Michelin PS2 tires for me. One on the east coast and one on the west. Due the scarce availability they marked them up and want $660 a piece plus tax. I told them I'd get back to them. That's pretty crazy.

there are no PSS in 315/30/18. i have also always ( 10 sets ?+/- ) gone with PS2 as it's the "best" tire i can find. but they were o/s when i needed rears recently so I've gone with pirelli p zero 315/30/18. it;s a VERY tough tire, and it does nothing to "cushion" the ride of my car. but nothing else in or on it does either

it's n rated, about 400 a pop and a suitable option. i am however running rwd so mismatched tires frt/rear is not an issue. if you're awd it could very well be. at least match the rolling diameters. brand shouldn't matter much but the ecu WILL act up and either adapt or continue to throw abs/psm cels. its a crap shoot mixing tires brands when AWD. the answer to THAT issue is to rip it out lol

When you say the P zero is a tough tire is it a hard compound? I'm after something that will stick well. I can't decide if I want the R888 or the P Zero. The Mustang guys rave about the R888 but they don't do corners the way these cars do either.

I was wondering about the AWD. Guess I'll find out once they're on. If the ECU complains I'll have to swap front tires too. I'm not about to rip the AWD, I love AWD and it's one of the reasons I got the car

you'll love it more when you can throttle steer yes, very hard compound = p zero. it'll stick alright

i would ( again ) go with the p zero. i would never try the r888's but for no particular reason lol

PS2s are no longer being made. Anyone who says they are back ordered and will be in some time in the future does not know what's going on - or they are getting you the last of the old stock floating around. I don't know what Michelin is smoking when they announce the end of an OEM tire without producing a replacement (PSS is not made in the OEM sizes) - but, there you have it.

Well I ordered the R888s. I should have them next week. I hear they stick like glue so we'll see.
