Replace my shocks or go for coil overs.
Replace my shocks or go for coil overs.
Yes i agree pics are always the way to go. But really it is not as hard as these instructions make it seem. All i have ever done was adjust my links until no interference in any postion occured making sure both sides were the same.
( just sneaking this in and X posting since I'm not starting ANOTHER coil over thread! lol , but it IS OT ( for once )..and its james' thread so i'm hoping he doesn't mind since he's already coiledover
what does everyone think of my installing a near mint set of gt3 coil overs?? and i've already got a new set of stubbed axles so i'll be able to keep my stockers intact.. and once and for ALL bail on the dumb** front diff that i still have hanging by a thread having only removed my cardan shaft and already long since had installed a wavetrac tbd lsd for true rwd happiness and sideways activity
i'm putting together my parts list can anyone ( steve? ) chime in with what besides gt2/3 uprights/toe linkscamber plates and the stubbed axles i might need.
you guys'd puke if you knew how friggin cheap i have these scored at. i just need to ascertain the mileage make sure they dont need any revalving bs. i have some tech friends thats for sure. oh and 250 labor to install ALL
i'm also gonna hit up pwdr for his freely offered and greatly appreciated advice. i've waited TOO long to finish properly my rwd conversion, but have felt NO downside to my MO30 w h&r springs setup!?! but, it's "time" as someone else will grab these in a ny minute, if i don't.
so..any thoughts re gt3 coil setup?? maybe this'll help the op, and not divert the thread. sorry if it does/did.

'02996ttx50, I saw what you did there...lol...
I will sneak a question in as well (again being that OP already chose his coils). Who is the manufacturer of the stock 996 GT2 & GT3 suspension? Are they both made by H&R and/or Bilstein? Also, are GT3 and GT2 both adjustable ride height and separately rebound and compression adjustable?

threadjackers love company

pretty sure bilstein is the oem mfg'r of record. or were?
that's probably why I love the MO30's so much
they ain't "loose", that's for sure.

right away i would think the ride will be sustantially stiffer for street car. figure the cost if all the replacement parts to make it a proper swap you can prolly buy full new set of jrz that will have more life less parts and possibly more adjustability. just my .02 unless you a full track car for the street. ride will likely be lower without adjustability
as it is.. for street? my car is S T I F F as is.
i wish i knew more about this sh*t and have disdained the bother of c-overs for these very reasons. i mean I've been perfectly happy, but my mo 30s wont last forever and this deal is a KILLER one time non advertised bro deal shot.
i can even bail on them if i dont like em and just swap back and just pay my bud for wasting all his time. but i'm dealing with post install alignment, tweaking, what all else?
there really ARE no adjustments as such on all matching gt3 parts.. are there?? i am usually VERY trusting of oem "sport" setups from porsche's mad scientists in zuffenhausen. let alone anything resembling their motorsports parts.
That gt3 setup deal does sound great. Hopefully you can get some more feedback on whether or not to pull the trigger on them.
Have you considered just going with a set of the H&R Street coilovers? Once you have them dialed in you shouldn't have to mess with them and they are made for 996tt. If I understand correctly they are bilstein shocks with H&R springs?
Do the stock gt2 and gt3 have other adjustments besides just ride height?

factor in the cost of all the associated parts to make the gt3 coilovers work in a turbo chassis and I'm guessing your in excess of 4000$. you can buy new coilovers made for the turbo suspension for that cost. that was the point i was trying to make. how much are the lca, the upper mounts, drop links etc to make the gt3 coilovers work? if everything is 1250$ then jump in. if just the shocks and springs are 1250$ your going to spend a bunch more making it fit. then ask how long before a rebuild is needed?
olsen motorsports says every 2 yrs for coilovers sooner if tracked hard. as far as adjustability unless your in pwderhounds league i don't think its really needed. most can't tell full stiff from full soft at wot! they are just hanging on for dear life

thx for your input. I've got some thinkin to do, and am only concerned that i am putting "used" stuff on, and when it comes to suspension, that alone doesn't "feel" right. we'll see.
again, thanks.
Please go right ahead guys and hijack to your hearts content, just glad that others are benefiting along the way.
Can you believe my coil overs are still on the bloody boat out in the middle of nowhere, air freight is not allowed.

Thanks JimTT, lots of great info in this thread. Gotta be tough waiting for the coilovers to arrive! BTW, were you able to confirm what the difference is between the US and the Europe version of the pss10? Just curious.
I still haven't ordered my coilovers yet, I'm pretty much locked into the H&R streets. They seem like a heck of a value.
Only thing holding me back is I've been researching the pss10 a bit but I really would like to set up the car ride height wise, alignment, and just drive it. I don't think I need the additional adjustments. If I'm not mistaken the H&R use bilstein shocks with H&R springs and I'm guessing the valving would be somewhere midway within the pss10 settings. If I do decide to upgrade to something more advanced in the future I could still do so.

'02996ttx50, I hadn't thought about using oem coilovers until you mentioned it and since I still have yet to commit to ordering mine, I briefly searched around a bit about the possibility of using them.
It seems pretty complicated based on what I read here: http://www.renntrack.com/forums/show...n-and-uprights
Seems like a lot of stuff needs to be changed including the brakes? Unless I'm not reading this right..and that link seems like its only talking about the front? Perhaps still more changes needed out back? Not sure. Would be really cool to use oem coilovers though.

I DO need the gt3 lcas but not.much else and if I'm not mistaken I can ( or as he will set this up? ) still be able to use my stock brake 350's. Need more clarification on that as I'm not so sure that is correct if I DO use gt2/3 uprights!
I'm workin it out.
Thx Jim! Sorry about the slow boat
Thought it was a fait accompli!
