Track Season Updates
i wish it was. this is exactly what i had hoped it would end up as. it was sold to a guy in canada for a daily driver build. all i have left is the motor out of my car.
great walk around vid on the car..nice to see i'm not the only one with a home modded cut air box lol.. and bummed to hear of the damage. i'd be distraught but the damage can be repaired, as long as youre ok, stay with it! your previous results speak for themselves and do the 96t platform justice.

Dez, I think its a crap shoot on the LS motors the ls6 in my keep going and going. This guy in this 944turbo with a LS3 has 5 seasons on the motor. He is a nice older guy maybe doesn't drive it that hard. Watch this thing pull me on the front straight when I came up to lap him in a NASA race.
Some of it has to be lack of care because people know they're cheap to replace or rebuild.
Going to give mine a good solid try next season and see how it goes. Get it to nationals at Laguna next year. Give us a reminder on that TT in Dec so we can follow on race monitor!

How much wheel horsepower does your car make? I know there are anomalies out there but far and wide I see too many issues with the engine, plus I've had my own horror story of a build. If the builder doesn't get it just right, you are looking at having to buy a new motor. Trying to build one to run 550-600 whp reliably is a crap shoot IMO. The Ls6 is the best motor GM has built IMO. But you either have to tear them down, bore and stroke them to get into the 500's or wring them completely out at which point even they become fragile. And then there is the dry sump. It's easy to dump 20k into a Vette motor between the build, dry sumping and cooling. That's IF the build didn't start at 20k from a reputable builder with good parts.
The NA throttle response is intoxicating though.

Season update.
A good friend of mine let me drive his gutted/caged C5Z track car at Road Atlanta for the first time in October. It ALMOST brought me back to the darkside when I drove it. However I ended up buying HIX's blue wrapped car before jumping off the ledge. (close call). I drove it in Time Trials this weekend at the last event of the year at Road Atlanta. The car was on 2 year old A6's that he bought used and with a built 427, putting the power down in 3rd was not much of an option. He also had the original synchros in the car, which made for very sketchy shifting (both up and down). So I had to resort to shifting as little as possible to get a lap in. Outside of managing the instant throttle response and huge torque, the car is super easy to drive (given it's 74 inch wing and massive splitter). Even with very few shifts, the ones I did make still gave me woes, but I managed to get within 1.5 seconds of my lap record at the track with some traffic in the way. Once we get the tranny operating properly, and some fresh tires on it, I would guess 1:25's or better. My next project is under development and I fully expect it to be faster than the old one and street legal to boot.
Track season starts in January, so I have a lot of work to do to get ready. But this C5Z should make an appearance here and there in 2016.

It was super frustrating! And super fun. You descibed it perfectly!
Though this car actually gives me more confidence the 911 platform. My car was 100 lbs heavier, 50 whp less, had a 10 inches narrower wing and was running on 245/315 vs 315/345 tires. I ran a 1:26.3 on similarly old tires. This vette has a lot left it in but I hadnt fully tapped the potential of my TT either which is why I opted for another one over being another vette in the crowd. Fortunately for me I will get to drive both.
