1000th Suspension Thread - Trying to condense info
^^ I have had great experience with the FSD for other cars in the past. I've had them on my mazda RX8 and my 00 C2, great shocks and I like the controlled rebound and compression of these shocks. Wish I had known they had them for 996TT , I would have considered them with stock springs or HR to maintain grand touring comfort and improved ride control .
Definitely post a review of them once you have them installed. Im sure that there are others that want to keep the car as stock in appearance as possible with maybe a little bit of an upgrade as far as performance. I dont want to be too biased in this thread as its for all suspension options.
I just received a set of Koni FSD. I looked at all the threads, and found that Koni had a 25% off sale direct from Koni NA. My car is completely stock road driven only. Looked at Bilstein options, as I have used the OEM and Sport replacements on other cars. Koni also has the adjustable Sport version. They cover up to 2005 I think. In my past experiences I have used Bilstein, Koni, and KYB. I seemed to like them all, as once the stocks were worn out, new felt so much better.
There is a question as to whether mono tube, high pressure is better/different than twin tube, low pressure? I have had both, and am undecided.
All of my experience has been with maintaining stock ride height. I go back and forth between that and coilover and the larger wheel, tire issue. They do look good that way.
For me and a weekend type car, I am keeping the stock feel.

Replaced and reinstalled the Tarett drop links with my Ohlins DFV setup. No issues in two weeks of driving now! I'm super happy with ride and handling.
I run Tarett's monoball camber plates at the front, and I haven't noticed any more noise than the stock mounts.

Good to hear your drop links worked out . Did you or installer follow Tarret's installation instructions ?
I had Koni FSD on my GTI before. They work well as long as you maintain stock ride height. Even though they claim they work with lowering springs, definitely not in my experience. I swapped to Bilstein sport with lowering springs.
I picked up a set of FVD valved Bilsteins that I will be putting on in the near future. Will update the thread as I go with add on's etc. Im probably going to wait till its a bit cooler outside as it looks to be an all day job. Not looking forward to doing the axles.
Please keep reviews and information coming in as I want to compile as much information as possible on suspensions. Also, links to other suspension threads would be good as well.

Su-maverick, great thread! There is a thread with a lot of feedback on H&R Street coilovers here: https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...ny-good-3.html
Mainly very positive responses and it seems as though the folks with issues may be really much lower than stock. Seems like within about .5" lower than gt2 height on a mainly street driven car they do very well. I am most likely going with them so hopefully I can add some more feedback.

Question
Hi guys, great thread; i know it's TT focused but seems like general suspension stuff relates to 996 C4 as well so here goes...I cannot find a straight answer to this question:
I just replaced front struts with Bilstein HD. Rides great, but the front of the car sits too high. I get it that the Bilstein Sport is optimal for use with lowering springs, but will lowering springs with HD work? Should I just use factory springs? Seems doubtful car sat this high when it was new.
I'm not buying coilovers or getting Sports...so any feedback on HD/lowering spring combo would be greatly appreciated!

From what I have gathered it seems that struts work best at the specified height range and going with lower springs would be best suited to the shorter B8 struts.
Right, i've got that...just trying to get feedback on how well my proposed combo would work.
There are a couple things to take into account if you want to add lowering springs to your current struts.
- It will be a little on the harsher and bouncy side. As stated in the previous post, the shocks you have now are designed for a set amount of travel. In a sense, they will be pre-compressed using shorter springs. It will have less than optimal performance this way.
- You will wear out the shocks at a faster rate. Since they will always be under stress due to the constant compression, they will not last as long as they normally would.
Its your car and your choice. They will definitely last longer than the original shocks.
