Hi folks, I am sitting in traffic with my 2003 996 Turbo, idling at a stop and suddenly my PSM and ABS lights go on. A minute or so later, the engine starts surging between say between 600 and 1500 revs but the engine keeps turning. The idiot lights stay on till I get home . I switch off the engine and restart and .. no more lights. What could be the cause of this?? Note: Engine was not hotter than normal. I was in the traffic for no more than 10 minutes in total. This happened one more time about 6 months ago.

Ahh good idea, I have not yet taken the car to the shop. Try to do that early next week and see what comes back.

yeah..i agree test it. I've never heard of a rash of 124-00 bosch mafs failing rapidly before. they last for years usually. it's the knockoffs that fail in a week. this I learned lol

 

As suggested by everyone... It's the MAF. It will get replaced tomorrow. Paying to the temple of Porsche!

 

I think my maf went a long time ago. Always get those lights. Fugg it.

 

So I got the MAF replaced and I am getting much more response from the throttle, the boost is coming on much HARDER. Interesting!

 

That is what I usually see after replacing a bad MAF= good news!

 

In fact I can easily " chirp" the tires in 1,2,3 gear... with a little boost of my friends

 

Replace MAF
