Wrapping vs Painting a car white

Hey guys,

So my wife has decided that having a gray car in Seattle is dangerous because it blends in with the road, so she wants me to get the car wrapped in white (vs selling it).

I started exploring pricing and for a place that won't ruin the car, it looks like 6k or so is the number I'm getting for wrapping it in some kind of cool white pearl.

At that price though, seems like I could just do something more permanent right? Let's say paint would cost 7k and then I could get any little ding etc. cleaned up.

Would painting the car lower the value if it's not done at maaco? I've honestly never liked Seal Gray, but paying like 15% of the car's value to have it painted seems sort of ridiculous ESPECIALLY IF IT NET LOWERS THE VALUE.

Anyone with a white 996TT want to trade? haha.

Anyone gone down this route?

I guess it would protect your paint and a full cover in clear would be close to the same. I wouldn't bother with it and would leave as is other than usual clear protection. I definitely would not paint= I really like seal gray.

6k is high for a wrap, look elsewhere.

6K sounds high, I was under the impression that a wrap should be more like 3K

My clear was I believe 2500 for full front mirrors etc, 3k sounds low for a full wrap but I'm no expert..

So I called the two most reputable places around here (the places that wrap ferraris, lambos etc.) and they both wanted 6k to do it.

At 3k I would just do it and stop wasting time posting on forums

I figured if 2 of 2 places wanted 6k then that's just what it costs! I'll keep looking

So to make matters worse, I have a full clear on the car, so they quoted like 400-500 bucks to remove that also I think. I stopped listening at "6k" haha.

Dangit! I've never liked it...I just bought it because I found a car at the dealer that I could get for a song and it came CPO'd when the car was like 8 years old.

There was some guy on this forum with a white 996TT that I didn't pull the trigger on that was EXACTLY what I wanted and I've kicked myself for 4 years.

At least my car has been reliable...so that's something.

I've bought plenty of car that I didn't like the color of because the price was right. Hate red but drove a red 944 back and forth to work for years= loved that car. White 966tts are rare but if your willing to pay they are available. Maybe a wrap would be worth it in your situation.

Ahhh, the truth comes out!

I can't see spending that kind of coin to fix a problem that doesn't exist. Perhaps sell your current car to someone who desires that color and get another in a color you desire?

If you're keeping it though, I'd definitely wrap it instead of repainting the whole car.

its 3m or dennison, your choice. i went with dennison satin matte blk. looks sharp

gotta bear in mind. there's a million or two of EVERYthing in la. brings prices on stuff like this down. competition tends to do that.

i'm re-tinting my windows this weekend including pulling the old sh*t off, for about 135. not counting rear window which is still unblemished.
