Hello guys,

I did a boost pressure test today and found a few small leaks but found a huge leak with the #16 check valve. Basically, as I pressurised the system and I had a ton of air coming out of the drivers side inlet pipe connector before the turbo.

I did some research and found that the #16 check valve often fails. I also read that the limit of the OEM unit is 18psi. Thus, some people use a Mitsubishi check valve but I don't see any part numbers. Is there a better alternative to the OEM #16 check valve?

boost leak into driverside inlet plenum....maybe your check valve at the intake tb plenum is def....(on the top of the intake tb plenum)

 

^1 yeah, i swore after yesterday and intmd8"s continuing issue, i'd never mention that little bastard of a valve again but here we are again. but it'll bite ya. 20 dollar plastic part. it cracks whether known or not. creates an intake ( duh ) system leak and/or boost issues. hard to isolate without a pressure test and can often frustrate until found to be bad.

 

Thanks for the reply guys. I did identify that the check valve is bad by doing a pressure test. However, I would like to know if there are alternative check valves we can use that won't easily fail like the oem units.

i wouldn't think there was a choice but just stay with oem. they don't easily fail. mine lasted 10 years.

 

Pulled the #16 check valve and found a leak by the FPR. The #16 was totally blown.

hah maybe now i can quit jabbering about #16! oh wait..

i betcha lots of folks with hairline cracks wondering, wtf?! wha happened to my boost! good call. nothing like a successful pressure test!

 

I'm glad Markski got on me about doing that. Can't wait to see how the car is going to run now.

 

mine = night vs day. really.. no hype.
cant even imagine how long it was an infinitesimally small crack.. at first!

 

there you Vince... now your a believer that these cars have all sort of leaks...

 

What are the specs on the valve? Any reason why a better replacement can't be found?

seriously tho... I've never heard of an option, its too cheap but not worth making an alternate is my guess.

 

Yeah, I don't see anyone really making a killing on these. However, finding the specs would be nice because we might be able to find an existing alternative.

 

I had looked into this in the past, ended up with a stock check valve. I believe these check valves would work http://www.maperformance.com/kracka-...acuum-kit.html

Double check the size and that they would flow the same direction.

 

McMaster-carr has some check valves that might also work. I need to leak test my car, if I find a dead valve I may experiment some
