Question Fuel Pump Activation Issue

So I have just installed Silly Rabbits great Little Pump Upgrade.

And now when I try to turn on the fuel pump with my durametric the engine compartment fan turns on instead.

Without the Fuel Pump I cant start the car

Has anyone experienced this or is it supposed to be like this.

Perhaps its a relay i will order one tomorrow.

Looking forward to your feedback as I think I have tried everything I can think of.

Funny because when i prime my secondary fuel pump it kicks on the fan as well. It must be tied to same ground or something.

I did notice is kicks the fan very low vs normal high flow operation. So i was under the impression this is normal operation when the FP is pulled to ground. Would be nice for someone to verify this though.

should be simple to test if normal operation - need someone to go out and start their car....check fan operation. I'm pretty sure it is...as mine does the same thing and haven't changed anything.

I think there must be an issue with your wiring. The ground is working...the 12+ to the pump/s might not be. Check for continuity from the connector side to the FP if possible. Wouldn't imagine it to be the FP relay if it was working fine before the SRM upgrade....but you never know I guess.

I have the SRM kit. Didn't notice anything different operation wise vs. OEM. When I start the car, my engine fan runs continuously. The fan also runs and stops when the car is off depending on the compartment temp sensor.

Don't know about the fuel pump but it reads like someone installed a fuse that wasn't installed before.

My 996 Turbo's engine compartment fan comes on right away and stays on all the time because a fuse was installed. I forget the location. This fuse present somehow runs the fan all the time the key/engine is on.

AFAIK the fan and fuel pump are not on the same circuit. (The spoiler and engine compartment lid are though. Don't ask.)

^^ They don't share the same relay, however, they do share a common ground. I know this because if you pull the FP ground wire to ground without the car being on (to test/prime FPs, etc.) it still will pull the engine compartment fan on. I was surprised this functionality honestly....not sure what purpose it serves to have the fan come on with the fuel pumps!

Either way hopefully the OP gets his setup figured out! Let us know timccloud what the issue was.

It seems odd there isn't a *seemingly* consistent pattern upon startup from car to car. Until recently I didn't even think my fan activated at startup until someone rightly pointed out it seems to coincide with SAI activation.

Nor does my fan stay on? Or automatically go on at shutdown but mimics pwdrhounds in that its seemingly engine comp temp related. More oddities. Gotta love it.

theres a probe right under the power steering pump on the pass side. mine had popped out of the copper looking holder and fell onto the motor . it ran constantly setting off the fan cel. once i found it and reinstalled it were it belongs the fan runs as its supposed to. mine may not come on once i shut it down but as the engine heat build up after shutdown it may come on 10 min later for as long as 20 min.

So you had instant on but a mil cel?! Mine goes on but must be turning off since at shutdown I hear it start (!?). One more no rhyme or reason occurrence. Sheesh.

**,"may NOT come on". Missed that somehow. I got it now.
