Help please! Bay Area Advice - Coils, plugs, exhaust install 996TT
Hi 6speed
Just moved to the bay area from Wyoming and need to do coils, plugs, replace aftermarket exhaust and CV joints on my 996tt.
Local mechanics seem very expensive ($140 an hour!!!) and estimate 15 - 20 hours for all of this.
Would you recommend doing this myself (total newbie)?
Is there anyone here that can do this and wants to earn some cash?
Alternatively, can anyone give me a recommendation for a cost effective mechanic in the area?
Thanks

All that stuff is fairly easy to do yourself. CV joints are probably the hardest - a couple of hours per side (I'm assuming front because the rears don't break as fast). You could do exhaust and plugs at the same time in about 3 hours (your first time).
Justin,
Welcome to Norcal...
I am using Junipero Serra Porsche Repair in Daly City. Jimmy knows his Porsches and he *just* installed my plugs, coils, fuel filter, and diverters. My car runs better than it ever has... I highly recommend him. As did Sambo.
Regarding Sam, well, he's a little far from the Bay Area, but he's the man when it comes to tune up kits, exhausts, etc and I'm a very happy customer of his!
I sent you a PM - call me.

sambo is incomparable but you're up north and need a mechanic. 20 hour estimate for that stuff is virtual insanity.
that is 5 hours of work tops with a siesta thrown in. find a shop for 100 per hour and give em five hundred and bring the parts with you.
that is crazy. good luck and yeah sam will tell you honestly what kind of time you're looking at AND probably get you deals on parts. though he's a specialist and those parts are every day whatever stuff. you can get em online as cheap as any mechanic, nearly. good luck. you need help that wont lie to you. thats why folks say at least call sam.

Hey guys. Late to the party! Thanks all.
Justin feel free to call me. I will gladly go over anything I can to help out and likely suggest the shops mentioned depending on your location.
Cheers
