What spark plugs does everyone run?
What spark plugs does everyone run?
Hey Guys,
Haven't touched the plugs since I got my car and have no idea what's in there or better yet what should be in there. When you guys turn up the boost a little do still run stock plugs? what about gap? do you tighten it some?
My car hits 1.0 bar as you guys know with the K28/18g setup but that was capped in the tune. My new tune bumped it and I saw 1.2 and even 1.3 on the display but the car breaks up and misses just before 5k rpms now so I let out right away and haven't pushed it beyond that. Data logs show fuel is fine. Very well could be plugs since they have unknown miles, gap etc.
Looking for some feedback before I re-invent the wheel playing with different plugs and gaps figuring this all out. Especially after reading the DIYs on changing the plugs
Thanks
Malcolm

^ don't 2nd guess the man. run the gt2 oem plug as noted above 6ldc. they are pre-gapped I promise.. the stock 96t ones were #5 heat range and a tuned car goes thru em faster.
could be a cracked coil causing the breakup stutter too. more common than a bad plug. you'll be right there. check em.

+1 for Bosch FR6LDC gapped around .03". They do come pre-gapped but make sure to check them the best you can, which is difficult due to their concave shape.
My car had the Denso Iridium plugs when I bought it, then started getting misfires. When I pulled the plugs the center electrodes were so worn out that the gap had increased to .06".
Also a very good time to change the coils, mine had hairline fractures.
Ecs tuning sells packages which include plugs and coils.

Bosch F5DP0R. I'm on 1.3 bar, 18/24 with additional stuff (see sig) and tuned by Tim941NYC. This is the plug he spec'ed.

boosted cars need good conductivity for a complete burn. the best plugs to use are single electrode all copper plugs. change them every oil change. 18$ a set. ngk bkr7e.
copper conducts electricity better than any other material on the market. cheap and they work
