I know this will be obvious to some of you but I strongly recommend using a durametric or equivalent software to log your fuel trims in the upper RPM ranges. Last month I had logged my fuel trims and noticed that my ID was almost 100% by 5200rpms. I figured my fuel pump was going out since it had been in the car for 80k miles. I replaced the pump with a Walbro 450 e85 pump. Went for a few more logs saw a small improvement but noticed the car was pulling timing up top of 3rd and all through 4th. Inspected the fuel system this past weekend and found that I had a small pin hole leaks on rubber hose that was on the pump assembly. Replaced the line with a submersible fuel line and pressure tested the fuel system. Found that the fuel filter was clogged. Replaced that as well. Test drove and everything seems to be running fine. Just wanted to share this experince.

I have a tendency to over think problems. It's crazy how much a dirty fuel filter can't impact your engine performance and can even lead to lean conditions. I had only had a little over 20k miles on mine.

Agreed with the dirty gas. Recently, while tanking gas to the track, I noticed a few specs within the gas can.




A speck, not a big deal for a few times but, after many, a filter change should be in line. Especially with E85!

Where is the fuel filter located on these cars? I've never changed them on any of my Cars.

i run a bottle of techron every 3 months. i wonder if that helps? dont think I've ever had a clogged injector or dirty filter symptoms (?!?)

I think your pedal to the metal is keeping everything in check Mark, these cars a designed to be driven (hard), the old Italian tune up is required every now and then even in German cars.
