Finally hit genuine 200mph.

I did another VMax event yesterday at a airfield in England called Bruntingthorpe in my R-GT2.

Pictures of the previous events have been posted here so some people may be familiar with the setup. Basically we have a 2mile runway and set timing beams about 1.5 miles along the runway to measure the cars speed, then brake hard to stop.

The conditions were perfect for the Turbo cars, it was -3 degrees celsius or 26 Farenheit. The runway was clear of frost/ice although there was some on the return roads, which was an issue as I was running Pirelli Corsa track-tires.

I had removed the rear-wing of the GT2, to try and gain an extra couple of mph, as I've managed to do 195-198mph there about 50-100 times, but have never quite got the 200mph in the fixed distance available (obviously the actual top speed is much higher).

I did a warmup run to test the surface and did 198mph, then a couple of runs later finally hit 200mph (we use fixed timing beams checked with GPS). I did a couple more 200mph runs, one with a passenger (no idea of he was just some Polish guy there who asked for ride) and then later on ended up with a best of 202mph.

I was obviously very very happy to finally hit a genuine 200mph (not some over-reading speedo 200mph), especially in such a short distance. The car was still accelerating quickly at that point.

Second place car was a Kleeman modified CL65 with 680bhp and 800lb ft which did 192mph

Drove 110 miles there, did 200mph+ 5 times and 195-198mph about 5 times, then drove home 110miles. Thanks to Mr Ruf for those amazing strong reliable German horses.

Sorry I have no video or pics, will grab some pics from others later.

What was the speedo reading when you were at an actual 200 mph?

Respect to yourself and Mr. Ruf!

I only managed 315 km/h / 196 mph on the speedo so far.

Excellent stuff Guy, being an ex-pat living in Canada now I have fond memories of racing my biz buddies from South London to Chichester...that was back in the 80's when the roads were not congested like they are now in the UK.

The 200 MPH is a goal of mine too....only been to 175 MPH on a back road in BC.

I just completed the EVO Stage 5 GT700 kit so I should get there much quicker now!

Congrats!

Ben

Was the car less stable after you removed the rear wing?

Didn't notice a real difference in stability, but I was only going in a straight line, with no side winds. There's still a huge weight over the back wheels, so it's never gonna 'go light', there's also still a small ducktail left underneath the main wing. Would undoubedly be less effective in higher speed (150mph+) corners though, possibly dangerous, but I didn't try that.

Gentlemen, Usually over 150mph your side view becomes a blurr because your brain cannot process the data quick enough. You usually pick a point ahead of you and aim at that point not concentrating on your peripheral vision which is minimal at best. It truly feels like tunnel vision.

Here's the data-logging from the car on a 201mph run.

I've been in and examined the data, which it holds to the 1/100th of a second and from the graphs and the data you can see that at 200mph it was still gaining a staggering 1.4 mph every second

The first graph has distance in miles along the bottom axis.

Unfortunately the misleading title of Speed vs Time is always displayed, since this is the function within the software that is used, although you can choose from many parameters for either axis.
