Intercooler fans, speak to me !!!
Intercooler fans, speak to me !!!
Ive noticed that when in the fire up road at the drags etc the car just heats soaks, to massive AIT by running it I can them to drop by 30 Centigrade, if fans were fitted to pull air thru the coooler I think this would ;lower AIT's as well BUT my question is once up and running will they then interfere much with the cooling process if left running? Will they become a restriction.
If you have not already done so look into installing the 2nd engine compartment fan fuse. This causes the engine compartment fan to run all the time the engine is on and this could help to keep the intercoolers from getting as warm as they are now.
However, I think you should still consider 32krazy's suggestion to bring the IC temps down to as low as you can...
Just remembered, back when I attended drag races and even did some myself -- just run what you brung nights -- drag racers used to drape bags of ice over the intake manifold of the engine between rounds.
Maybe you can dump in some crushed ice into the intercooler openings? The ice would of course melt and remove some heat from the intercoolers and as long as you didn't over do it not interfere with any air flow when it counts.

in the pits we often use a garden sprayer filled with alcohol to spray down the i/c and the motor. pulls tons of heat out of the motor and evaporates quickly. just not in the lanes
Don't use just alcohol, cut it with water. This will drop the temps pretty good but obviously don't wet down the tires or road. Used this on the dyno many times with other cars, drops the intercooler temp down quickly. With nitrous spray bars you have to worry about a whiff getting into the inlet...
Im going to do this but use CO2 instead, arm and have a momentary switch to freeze the coolers then run a window switch to keep them on the time the car is at boost, only any good for 1/4 mile or mile stuff.

really need to stay away from any icing at the staging lanes unless its in a tank with water to air i/c. the water will leak over the tires on the track and could be very dangerous. quickest way to get booted from the track is to constantly be dropping fluid in the lanes

What about crushed dry ice? No drips.
I like the chilled alcohol idea, too.
Less a fan of rigging pipes and sprayers/etc as this adds just one more thing to break or fail at the wrong time.
I was thinking dumping the crushed ice in while in the pits and by the time the car got to the staging area the ice would be gone with no water dripping down. This would take some experimentation to come up with the right amount of ice. What about crushed dry ice? No drips. I like the chilled alcohol idea, too. I agree completely . Any co2 nitrous or dry ice works. Water in the staging lanes is a no no
Methanol Injection is your friend, I installed one on my last Audi and it really made a difference on those hot days. Here is my write up from a few years back Aquamist DIY

Used to do CO2 (in place of nitrous) on the supra's FMICs. Cheaper than nitrous and easy. Gets it SUPER cold. Still have to buy the systems though...X2. Maybe they have some kits for dual IC setups out there now.
OR johnny.D you can just scoop up a proEFI 112 and run ethanol...then screw all that IC spray bar junk.
