100 Cell cats = Check Engine Light ?

Hi,

I might consider adding an exhaust system with 100cell cats to my 2003 TT non X50. I am also planning on chipping the car to stage 2, or 3 with new wastegate and intake system (but keeping the K16). My concern is would 100cell cats be a problem with either the turbo's overspooling and CEL (that is what I read so far from 2 users).

Thanks
Bo

Some exhaust will, but most of the main stream tuners/resellers have systems that will not throw CELs.

My TT running Ruf exhaust with 100 cell cat, EVOMS stage 2 program and V-flow. Only have cel once due to bad MAF. 100 cel won't have cel issue.

The lower the cell count, the better the flow.

If I understand correctly, the number of cells corresponds to the number of holes per square inch. The fewer holes, the lower the differential pressure resulting from air flow through the cells. Since airflow through a pipe and the resultant differential pressure follows the "Square Law", ie. as flow goes up, differential pressure goes up exponentially, 100 cells are better than 200 cells. Unfortunately, residence time is important in the catalytic conversion process. So, a balance has to be struck to ensure that adequate conversion of the long-chain hydrocarbons takes place, so as to not kick off check engine light, while offering the best performance for your car.

What an F'ing Dork I've turned into!

Gee, it's a good thing I staye at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

"residence time" huh? honestly very articulate as I get the point perfectly.

What the cell count on factory? 400?

Talking with Todd at Protomotive he once laughed about "100 cell cats and other sillyness" in describing various mods. FWIW..

Has anyone ever deleted the cats with downpipes? What would the HP gain be with deleting the OEM cats with downpipes?
