the synchro's is what first causes "it" ( dogring gets rounded too ) and sometimes ( but not always ) 1&2nd gears, which incl new mainshaft. then you'll need to replace the bearings since you're in there anyway...and ( or i thought you said 3rd pops out?! ) then you need 3rd & synchros there too, so you need a full rebuild essentially.

they built with "triple cone" synchro's and everything is a trade off, but this one doesn't serve "most" of us. it was to make the 1/2 shifts buttery smooth. or so i was told.

2nd gear, I fixed that it was a typo. I'll have to make some calls on the 997 gt2 main shaft and see what pricing is. Really for my needs the gearing isn't to bad especially with going to a 325/30/19 rear. That's adds some mph to each gear but a little higher wouldn't hurt.

it all depends on what your needs/goals for the car are and will be looking forward. so many people upgrade parts in a haphazard way and if you're not road coursing or tracking regularly and the car is primarily a street car, you'd *probably* be best served by refreshing everything that's faulty e.g. fixing what you've got.

i looked into different gear sets etc and who among us wouldn't like a taller first/second etc, but for what i do? it's a spend vs return kind of equation so i opted to stay oem and on top of maintaining what I've spent to rebuild/refresh. you have parts that need attention, so people will tell you to get gt2 stuff and there's all kinds of options. or just rebuild it oem, and take care of it once done! gl w it!
