6 speed trans value depending on upgrades question?
6 speed trans value depending on upgrades question?
I am contemplating on selling my six speed as a complete swap in case some auto guy wants a complete swap with pedals, ERP clutch, gt2 slave.
The transmission has very rare second gear popout issue. Has 49k on it.
I'm trying to weigh out the costs added versus resale worth afterwords.
#1- just fix the 2nd gear popout potentially with new syncros shims, and slider and any other problem there may once opened up then sell. Aprox cost will be $1000-$2000 invested.
#2- upgrade with all new bearings, GT2rs main shaft(better ratios), new syncros, 1-2 & 3-4 slider, steel syncros, new bearings, wider 3rd gear, etc then sell. Aprox cost will be $4500 invested.
Seems my first option would be most cost effective? Or could I get back my investment with a full upgraded unit better? What would sell quicker at what price? How much for would it be worth with all new guys and gt2 parts? I don't see a lot to compare to.
Any thoughts? Thanks for opinions.
I'm guessing the bare bones would be the most cost effective...

if you choose to repair the trans it would be the most cost effective to stay manual. your going to see a huge price drop in the value of the car as a whole with the auto. if your keeping it forever its not an issue. if your going to sell it at some point it will be.
the only real potential sale would be to someone who has a broken case since fixing theirs is more cost effective than buying another. theres a 2nd gear poppet trans with a lsd for sale now on the forum for 4500$

I saw the transmission, that is a killer deal. As far as resale value the car is going to make 1000 wheel horsepower, wouldn't most people rather have a car that works well with 1000 hp and having a six speed? Last time I had a six speed what 1000 hp, it was a pain in the *** I could never shift the car quick enough. Lol
I also need to do more research on 1-2 syncro options. I have a set of steals for the other gears, but need to figure out what the best option is there unless stock is best.
Thanks

option 1 is cheapest, but option 2 is best. here's what you need for 2nd gear to repair, except you dont know whats what until you get inside. 3rd could also be toast etc http://californiamotorsports.net/col...ear-repair-kit
but this doesn't address the issue your mulling over re a 1000 hp car. for that, you'll need a fully built box so 4k in parts etc. wouldn't have a clue whats needed for a built tippy?
either way, with a 1000hp car the irony will end up being that for the money and time, parts and effort you'll put into making the car king kongs competition, you'll simultaneously limit the number of potential buyers if you ever decide to sell, since that car is going to be unmanageable for all but a few drivers, and places and it'll be a wheelie machine. its not a dd that's for sure.
i'd split the difference if it were me and build a killer road course 3.8 w a built guard or radar box ( or the name doesn't matter just the parts do, and a taller gear set w brass etc etc ) and then you have the best of both worlds, and still maintain daily drivability. this is what you'd pay if bought off the shelf w the 2rs parts etc http://californiamotorsports.net/col...0-transmission and it would even go UP from there. unless you're doing all the work yourself?

if the plan is for you to do all the labor then its down to parts. keep the manual and build it as best as funds allow.
the thought of an auto pcar drag monster is great but it really isn't practical. we all want mustang launches but the reality is unless its a pdk car 1.7 is golden and 1.5 is a glory launch. 1.2 is unheard of

I would put a trans brake on the car, so I could launch of the stall.
Idk, I build auto and manual transmissions, so its all just parts. Full gt2 swap like the link costs me less then $5k.
I'll probably just run the manual, and dream about TipTronic.

i would suggest you look into a proefi management. its way more bang for the buck than swapping a tippy in. launch control strategies 2 step rolling antilog and a host of safety features to save the motor. cost would be on par with a tippy swap
