Mod for the Money?
Mod for the Money?
Hey guys,
still relatively new to the forum. I've had my guards red TT-X50 for about 6 months. What do you think is the best "first" mod for the money? I'm thinking exhaust, but my partner is thinking of a chip for his TT.
Thoughts?

For the money...
I'd do a short shift kit right away. It makes a big difference.
Exhaust and a Stage 1+ ECU upgrade will give 500hp, but at five grand (minimally) I am not sure if that qualifies for a "Bang for the Buck" upgrade.
Wheels, tires and a set of coilovers can also set you back over 10 grand if you do it right. Not sure if that's BFB territory either.
Then again there's always smoked corner lenses, silver hood crest or the aluminum look gas cap to get your feet wet and get you started with Mod Fever. Be careful - once you get the bug there is no cure.

Depends what you crave. Nothing makes an outside impact like wheels. If you go to 19 then lowering becomes a must but can be done later. If it's power you crave then nothing beats programming and exhaust. SSK is cheap and you use it all the time, no brainer.
How does X73 from the 996 TT compare with some of the aftermarket stuff? It's really NOT any less expensive. At $2300+ it costs about the same or more than PSS9s.

Willcox, I think your question is not specific enough. Do you want aesthetics or performance "bang". You can travel pretty far down either road.
I'm not a "bling" person so I'll let others go there. So for performance I'd recommend:
1. Suspension; PSS9 has had good reviews generally (I don't have this type personally).
2. Sway bars, a little more to go with the adjustable when you change suspension.
3. Performance alignment at the time you do the suspension.
4. Harness Bar and four point harness to hold you nice and tight with the new suspension.
The chip I would do later personally. The exhaust I would also do personally after the suspension, but before any chip.
With the new suspension you can spend some quality time learning to drive the turbo before adding power to what is already a massively powerful car.
My 2 cents dude!

Wilcox,
Street car only, if so:
1. Clear side markers
2. GIAC Controller
3. Europipe exhaust
4. Wheels (if you must)
5. Tech Art non adjustable coil overs or PSS9's (get the lower look, but maintain a good quality ride).
Street & Track
1. Clear side markers
2. Roll bar
3. 6 pt harness
4. suspension - same as above
5. GIAC chip
6. Exhaust
7. Wheels - but stay with 18"
Enjoy the ride and remember if everytime you think of coming here to see what's up, you go drive your car instead, you will have a lot more money, because you won't get a bunch of ideas of what you need! I know this board has cost me a bundle!
