Secans would be the only core comparable to these but at close to $20k for the pair not really an option.

I'll be pretty interested to see the data on both, it would also be awesome to see how a set of 4.5inch SRM compare to see what sort of delta is between all three. I expect these will do VERY well but wonder how well cooling air will pass thru them - I know the airflow has been worked out. Since you spoke to the engineers, were emittive coatings ever discussed? Can't help but wonder if those are worthwhile for this!

Yep! unless you go A-W (and there are drawbacks there too), these are as good as it gets, particularly for a road racer. These give you roughly 30 fpi on the outer core (2x3 times most aftermarket) but the money is in the brazing process which gets more heat into the cooling fins.

I run a similar core in the 5 1/4" variety (actually 2 x 2 5/8" cores put together) -there's no comparison.

Nice work John (and Sean)

Very excited for this. It's not needed for me at this point, but I see this being the money no object ICs. I had the opportunity to check out one of the 911 GT1s a few weeks ago, it had relatively small ICs made by Secan... doesn't have to be a big IC to do a great job..

Correct. Porsche Motorsport has used Secans on the GT1 and 993GT2 applications. Again, unlimited budgets come into play here. The beauty of these cores is the fact they are custom built to the same length and width dimensions as the OEM 996/997.1 intercooler. Even though they are 4" thick, they will drop right in to the factory ducting with very minimal modding, certainly a lot less than what has to be done to make the 997.2s fit properly. Each of the aerospace cores weighs 7lbs which will have it come in at under 10 lbs each with end tanks. That's very much comparable to the 7.2s and much less than the typical AM intercooler.

Thanks Earl. It's been a long road but there is light at the end of the tunnel.

We have 3 sets as part of the initial batch at an intro price of $7K. I will have the first set with two others available for those that want a set. The normal price after that will be $7950/set. Yes, that will be for the complete intercooler with welded aluminum end tanks, ready to bolt on. There will be options of having the end tanks for use of the OEM clip in boost hoses (what I'm getting) or end tanks for use with aftermarket slip on hoses secured using T clamps.

Man, this is awesome.

I guess for someone who has done the GT2RS coolers, we would need to buy new ducts since had to cut/modify the originals? My car is all stock, except for the .2 ICs but when I upgrade from stock K16 this will be on my radar for sure. I noticed a difference on lapping days with just the intercooler change, so keeping efficiency as the power increases will be one of my priorities. Keeping the weight low is awesome, I always thought that to be a disadvantage of the other offerings on the market... We've got enough weight back there ha

Are these pressure tested/certified to a certain pressure? I was looking over my pics of the Secans on the GT1 and noticed they have a sticker with the max pressure allowed on the side of the core.

Yes, the finished intercoolers will be pressure tested before shipping. The cores are rated at 1.8 bar continuous operating pressure according to their specifications. I will have to check what their Max rated pressure is.

Yes, if you have cut up your OEM ducts, you will need new ones unless you're going to perform some Frankenstein mod on them to get them back to OEM

Cast with machined inlets and outlets if I'm not mistaken.
