I don't know if they are actually racing as the GTR bests the RUF in power/weight. Still a fun video regardless...

That's not an RT12, it's an RTurbo 550, entirely different car. I agree the results don't make sense.

on their website they claim 0-150 in 10.9 s. that is a little optamistic considering the video.

AFAIK, the Ultima had gearing set to top out at 155 mph, explaining why it drops back when AdamT gets into the beef of his fifth gear.

Still a very close drag to 155 regardless!

Had Adam been driving his CTR, it would have been entirely no contest.... I've got a video of him doing just that somewhere around here.... let me see if i can fish up a link for you guys!

Found it!

This is from VMAX in Spring of 2005.

You'll need Quicktime 6 to view it.

I wonder how a drag race would end? I'll bet the Ultima would be quicker off the line to 100mph

The first video was a lot of fun, and we were definetely going for it. I was driving a 996 R turbo 3.6 550bhp. If it would have been the 997RT12 with 3,8 650bhp...it would have been messy.

2nd gear full acceleration. I really enjoy racing ultimas as generally they are quick, but never as quick as the owners make them out to be lol.

all the best

Hi. I think the issue is that one Ultima is not always like
another Ultima. The car accepts a range of motors, from
350hp to over 600hp. Simple physics implies to me that
the beaten car is *not* one of the top-of-the-line Ultimas.

You got some nice rides there adam =), were you driving a red 996 Ruf R Turbo in Fifth gear, giving Tiff Needell a ride? =/

Interesting though. 500hp with much less weight
and arguably less drag *should* have done better,
don't you think? Odd.

I guess, but from a roll i dont believe that weight is such a major issue.

The Ultima is however not very aerodynamic as it has quite a large wing and aero kit...but of course these can be easily changed.
