Question '04 turbo or 997 turbo

Put a deposit down on this white beauty today. It looks even better in person. I know the 997 turbo is coming soon(possible '05 model year) but this vehicle is so sweet. I'm trading in my C4S and right now we are off by $3k. I have until monday to decide. I knew I shouldn't have driven it.

I would take the 996 Turbo, you havent seen a final product on a 997 Turbo if there will even be one and if there is no sure answer to what year it will be here.

Id go forthe 996...If the 997 is only gonna be an interim facelift to be replaced by the 998 in 2 years after, Id rather get a 996 now and wait for the new platform (i.e. the 998)....

Dave,

I saw that TT at the autoshow. It looks great in white and I love the red stitching and white interior accents. Definately buy it!

the 911 just got a facelift in MY02 and getting another one in MY 05 sounds fishy to me (it would **** off a lot of owners!!)...could it be that the 997 is the next boxster and the 998 is the next 911??
This would make more sense as the boxster came out two years prior to the 996...(boxster began MY97 and 996 MY99)

Congrats.

I really like the red accents in the white car. It must make it go faster!!! cause it sure is smooth. I'm in the camp hoping that porsche will not produce any more turbos until the 998 hopefully in about 3 yrs minimum. Besides, these cars are beaut!!

Agree w/ all above and the 997 Turbo is not nearly as close as you think it is if we see one at all!

I am having this same dillema. I think the best course of action is to get a higher mileage 996 turbo for cheaper, and then trade it in if the 997 is all it is cracked up to be.

i am going to disagree with the majority of the posters so far. I don't know who in their right mind would buy a brand new turbo right now after seeing the depreciation they have taken. Why not buy a nice used one and benefit from the depreciation instead of getting crushed when you drive off the lot???

I just bought a used TT for about 20K off sticker w/ only 2k miles on the odometer.
So I agree. However, I would rec. buying a used one now, because the market for the used ones (especially low miles) is actually ticking back upward a bit and definitely stabilizing since there are basically no '04's being shipped anymore.

If you want a specific car with specific options, and you want to KNOW how it was cared for, you buy new. Is it the best financial move? Heck no but then again spending 100k+ on any car is rarely a wise financial move.
Also, the best I have heard is 85 or so, but definitely fewer than 100tt's in 04 in the US.
