Just cleaned my Maf...
The difference is INSANE! I was planning to do a full tune up this spring to see if i can get it to run a bit better as I noticed an occasional hic up at WOT. I'm still going to do the tune up by I am blown away by the difference just cleaning the maf made. The car feels quicker and definitely more responsive.
Maf cleaning is an absolute MUST!
Just thought I'd share because I'm excited. lol

Meaning your maf is getting ready to go. There on Amazon for 180.00 new but get the one that says 996_ _ _
That's where I got mine from but it must have the genuine hologram seal on the box otherwise its a cheap fake made to look like the real deal. You'll soon know you have the crap one as your car will not be running correctly.
+1, an improvement from cleaning the MAF just means you need to replace it...also consider the Bremi brand MAF, about $110USD all day...have a 6TT running it with good luck so far...

This is the only one that's the 996 part number on Amazon. The rest are fakes or boxster ones.
There was literally a chunk of dirt on the little prongs. We'll see if the improvement lasts but considering I could literally see it stuck on there I'm optimistic the maf itself is fine. However even if its not, they're pretty inexpensive.
Considering my car could barely make it above 4k rpm at WOT and now its as smooth as ever, It's certainly not a placebo effect.
one more FYI. the knockoffs WILL work some adequately my issue with them was the i would peg the limber at 7200rpm THEN the diode would be fried and once fried that's it, theyre done.
as rob noted use the bremi or the bosch ending in #124.00. i haven't had any maf issues in years since putting in a new one and removing my BMC and going back to the $17.00 mahle. i still peg the limiter on accidental occasion but the oem seems to handle it,

just don't rule out the possibility you'll still need "new" one "soon".
